BSOD: System Service Exception, Random Occurrences

Hello,

I recently installed Windows 7 on to a Kingston 60 GB SSD after deciding to finally upgrade. This process went smoothly. Part of my motivation to do so was a repeating but not very regular BSOD issue that I had on my old installation - System Service Exception every time.

I assumed that reinstalling would fix these but to my dismay I got one this morning. Time to seek help!

As instructed I have attached the dump files and filled in my system specs. To the best of my knowledge I have upgraded drivers as required upon installation. I installed all the latest for my Board from the ASUS driver site as well as the latest graphics driver. I had difficulties upgrading the Firmware for my SSD, but I had these exact same BSOD on my old Hard Drive (before the SSD was in the computer.)

There was no pattern to the frequency of these BSOD on my old Windows installation, and at the time of the latest crash my PC was idle. I'd just turned a game off (Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn) and had nothing but a four tab Firefox open. I was AFK at the time of the crash and came back to Windows rebooting on the "Welcome" screen.

If I have missed anything obvious or important, please let me know. Thank you.

Please download from this site only http://www.memtest.org/ in the middle of the page are the Download links, you can download the ISO.zip or the Auto USB Flash Drive installer.zip

Extract the Zip file. If you chose the ISO image, burn it to a CD using Windows Disk Image Burner or any Image burner you may have. If you downloaded the Auto USB installer, extract it, insert your USB 2.0 Flash Drive and take note of the drive letter. Run the installer, select the Flash Drive Letter, check the format box and press next. It will install memtest86+ to a flash drive. You can use either V4.20 or V5.01. Boot from your selected media. If you use V5.01 it will tell you to press certain buttons at the start, please press no buttons. The test will begin on it's own and continue to run until you stop it. It needs to run for 8 complete passes or until you receive an error. If you receive an error, stop the test. Even 1 error is a fail. Each pass tests a different part of the ram and each of the 10 tests in each pass tests something different. It takes a minimum of 8 passes to completely test the ram, more passes are better. It is quite a long test and will take several hours depending on how much ram you have. Due to the time length it is best to run overnight. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask

Okay, I ran MemTest last night aiming to leave it on over night. I received 2 Errors after about 20 minutes so I stopped the test. I took out the 4 GB stick, and put in my old 2 GB stick that I had before upgrading a couple years back - this meant I had x2 2 GB Sticks. Ran MemTest on those two and no errors found on these two.

The other of the set of RAM (I bought an 8GB x2 4 GB Sticks Set) was the blatent cause of a tonne of issues awhile back, as my PC was near unusable with it in (which is why I have 2 GB and 4 GB right now.) I am currently chasing up the manufacturer for the Warranty for it, so it seems highly plausible the other 4 GB stick is faulty too.

Thank you for your assistance, and I'll let you know if the problems persist with the older RAM. Meanwhile I'll chase them up about the warranty.

It is not really a good idea to run 2 different types and density of ram. Sometimes it will work, but it is usually just asking for trouble. If your set of ram that is faulty was from G Skill, Corsair, Kingston or any of the major manufacturers, they will have a lifetime warranty. When you send it in, send both sticks and ask for a set in return. Sets are tested to run well together where individual sticks, even same manufacturer and model, are not tested to run well together. Great job in finding your problem. Very well done.

Hello again, sadly, another BSOD with the same message. A lot has changed since the last BSOD however. The problem I was having with my SSD (which I posted in another thread that you helped me with) is something I gave up on trying to fix, especially after lengthy research into SandForce SSD controllers and my mobo. But I digress; I am running all the same components, hardware, operating system, etc, as the original BSOD dumps in the OP, except now I have a DVD Writer in SATA Slot 2, rather than a Hard Drive. Said Hard drive is now the only HDD in my computer.

To recap, I ram MemTest as instructed before and found issues with the RAM. This has since been sent for RMA.

However, with the two older sticks in - neither of which gave any errors in MemTest with 8 passes - I just got the same BSOD. I have attached the dump files from this. I will run MemTest again tonight to ensure it's still error free and report back in the morning, but attaching the files now incase this BSOD has another cause. Thank you for your continued assistance.

MemTest again returned no errors on the RAM after another 8 passes over night.
