    BSOD playing Archeage and ram compatibility issue


    I'm having difficulties with my computer over the past couple of months trying to play a game called Archeage, I believe it has caused many people grief. I've tried several steps to resolve the issue, but I am sure I've missed things that could help resolve this issue. I've gone to each of the manufactures sites to get various drivers to make sure I'm up to date, I've done hardware tests on my system as well. I believe I will need a new graphics card, but I want to be certain first.

    Secondly I had bought two sets of PXD38G1866ELK ram which has a 1.65V requirements. One set of that ram had a physical failure and was replaced with PV38G186C9K ram, which has a 1.50V requirement. When I inquired with the support team they informed me to "set the voltage to the highest but not over 1.65V". I thought that would be fine, but since then I've had the SPECIAL_POOL_DETECTION_MEMORY_CORRUPTION when the system was idle and two "windows has shut down to prevent damage to your system". I hope to contact and clarify with them on that soon.

    First, I need you to fill out your system specs as complete as possible including your PSU and CPU cooling. We often have to look up components and need the Manufacturer and model part number to do that. This will help you, if you don't know.

    Next thing is there are a lot of games out that are very poorly coded and cause a lot of people problems. If that is the case, then you know what the problem is and can go from there. Some do have fairly easy fixes, but others have fixes that can mess your computer up so that you have problems with a lot of games that used to run right. Trust me, I know from experience. There is a reason that a lot of people have problems with certain games.

    As for the ram, it is never a good idea to run different ram modules together. Yes, it can be done by some boards, but you are really just asking for problems by doing it. Disclaimer: I am not responsible for bad things that may happen from what I am about to say. The tech support guy was correct about voltage. You are generally safe if you over volt ram by no more than 10%. However, he was just putting you off about 2 different modules working together. You should always buy ram in kits. A kit is tested to work right together where individual sticks are not. If you can, send both sticks back and tell them you want a kit of what you bought, and it has to exactly match the other kit. I always buy ram in kits. If one stick goes bad, I send both sticks back and ask for a kit as the replacement.

    I've looked at your dump files and you are getting several error codes and most of the blame is on your graphics card. However that could be from the game crashing. The graphics driver is the driver most used while gaming, so if the game crashes, so will the graphics driver. The one error you are receiving that concerns me the most is

    This is the one you mentioned. The reason it concerns me most is because if you have ram errors, nothing in the dump files is reliable. So, with those errors, I have to be certain if the ram is causing the problems we are seeing. So, Please do it exactly as the instructions are given. If you have any problems or questions, feel free to ask. Please run it for a minimum of 8 complete passes all at the same time, which will take severalhours.

    Please download from this site only http://www.memtest.org/ in the middle of the page are the Download links, you can download the ISO.zip or the Auto USB Flash Drive installer.zip

    Extract the Zip file. If you chose the ISO image, burn it to a CD using Windows Disk Image Burner or any Image burner you may have. If you downloaded the Auto USB installer, extract it, insert your USB 2.0 Flash Drive and take note of the drive letter. Run the installer, select the Flash Drive Letter, check the format box and press next. It will install memtest86+ to a flash drive. You can use either V4.20 or V5.01. Boot from your selected media. If you use V5.01 it will tell you to press certain buttons at the start, please press no buttons. The test will begin on it's own and continue to run until you stop it. It needs to run for 8 complete passes or until you receive an error. If you receive an error, stop the test. Even 1 error is a fail. Each pass tests a different part of the ram and each of the 10 tests in each pass tests something different. It takes a minimum of 8 passes to completely test the ram, more passes are better. It is quite a long test and will take several hours depending on how much ram you have. Due to the time length it is best to run overnight. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask

    Thank you for the fast replies, you had already posted a second time before I could even follow through with your firsts instructions. I've dealt with one set of ram going faulty before I would not put it past another going bad. Just to clarify each pass does a number of test, I believe ten in total. I had tried running the test with all my ram for roughly 10 hours and had only performed two whole passes of the test. Now I am only running with one set of the ram and will do the test over night, then depending on how far they get when I wake up swap them and let them run while I'm out.

    Each pass tests a different thing and each of the 10 tests tests something different, that's why it takes a minimum of 8 complete passes to completely test your ram. 16 GB of ram will take somewhere around 16-20 hours to run the 8 passes. It's a slow test, but that test is the best we have. Like most tests, nothing is 100% accurate so use the best we have, I think. Another rig I have takes about 9.5 hours to run 8 Passes on 8GB of ram.

    Thanks for the system specs. I appreciate it. Also, if you are overclocking, please set everything back to default levels until we get you running right. I am not opposed to overclocking, as I am sure you can tell, but while your computer is unstable it confuses things and makes finding the problem that much more difficult.

    Okay I'm back after testing both sets of ram individually, I did 10 full passes each after 20ish hours. Both sets came back clean. I will now contact my ram provider for clarification on that matter. I also have not overclocked for the reason that I am constantly crashing.

    Are you having any problem with other games, or is it just Archage? If it is just that one, a lot of people are having problems with it, which tells me it is a badly coded game. Your problem could be just the game. but in case, please open an elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

    Also, please reinstall your graphics drivers, using this method, NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems

    Sorry for the delayed reply got busy over the weekend. I ran the sfc /scannow a bit prior to opening this thread, but did it again for confirmation. I received a "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". I have used that system to install Nvidia most recently and have done it again just in case.

    I have not recently had any issues, I've added another fan and redid the wiring to improve air flow as well.

    I appreciate all the help, I'm also going to go ahead and see if I can re-apply the thermal paste to my graphics card. It's past warranty so that's not an object and I have some spare cash to buy a new one if all goes bad.
