Well.... exciting news.... my PC has been rock solid and totally stable for 2 weeks now! The only changes that I made were replacing AVG with Microsoft Securities Essentials and installing a newer version of Bluestacks. I am confident that the issue was not with Bluestacks, as I had BSOD episodes before it was ever installed.

It seems strange to me that I had BSOD with either Zone Alarm or AVG installed, but it's stable with Microsoft Securities Essentials. I wouldn't expect both of those 3rd party anti-virus programs to give me the same problem.
