Random BSOD with Bug check code 0x00000124

I have been experiencing random BSOD on my PC for several months. In an effort to resolve the issue, I have formatted the SSD and reinstalled Windows7 (home edition) with all the latest drivers. I ran Memtest86 (it took about 4 hours, and it showed 0 errors). I was still getting BSOD, so I formatted and reinstalled windows using only the driver set on the motherboard CD (system is 1.5 years old). With only anti-virus installed on the fresh Windows install, I still got BSOD. It seems that it crashes with old or new drivers.

Since then, I have updated most of the drivers, and also ran Checkdisc on the SSD and storage HD. Both tests passed error free. This weekend I removed and re-seated the video card, processor, and memory. I have 4 sticks of DDR Ram (4GB each), so I removed 2 of them for testing (running 8GB now). Since then, I got a BSOD again. I was unaware that mini-dump is 'off' by default, and only have one dump to post here. It has crashed a few times since this dump file was generated, but Windows has not generated another dump file, and I don't know why.

    System specs:
    Windows 7 home premium edition
    Asus Sabertooth Z87 MoBo
    Intel i-7 4770 processor
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (16 GB total, 8GB currently installed)
SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series SSD - for O.S.
Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB HD - for programs and storage
EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card
TRENDnet TEW-684UB Dual Band Wireless Network Adapter -USB (no hard line near the PC)

Nothing is overclocked. I have updated the BIOS and ensured that it is running default settings. I monitor the temps, and the system never runs warm.

Several of the BSOD episodes occur right after boot up, before I even open a program.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! :)

Scanguy15, Hello and welcome to the Forums. I will try to help you. However you only have 1 dump file which is not a lot to go on. It gives little information

    Code:
Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.
    BugCheck 124, {0, fffffa800e8368f8, 0, 0}
    Probably caused by : GenuineIntel
    Followup: MachineOwner
First thing is uninstall Driver Max and any other 'speed up windows' type software. Those programs will cause many problems rather than fix anything. Download driver from Asus web site only or the Manufacturers web site.

Next, reinstall you Chipset drivers and all USB drivers from Asus web site for your board.

You say you ran memtest for 4 hours. It takes a minimum of 8 complete passes to completely test your ram. You have 16 GB and that will take 18-20 hours or more to complete 8 passes. This will tell you how to run memtest86+.
    Please Run Memtest86+

       Information
Please download from this site only http://www.memtest.org/ in the middle of the page are the Download links, you can download the ISO.zip or the Auto USB Flash Drive installer.zip

Extract the Zip file. If you chose the ISO image, burn it to a CD using Windows Disk Image Burner or any Image burner you may have. If you downloaded the Auto USB installer, extract it, insert your USB 2.0 Flash Drive and take note of the drive letter. Run the installer, select the Flash Drive Letter, check the format box and press next. It will install memtest86+ to a flash drive. You can use either V4.20 or V5.01. Boot from your selected media. If you use V5.01 it will tell you to press certain buttons at the start, please press no buttons. The test will begin on it's own and continue to run until you stop it. It needs to run for 8 complete passes or until you receive an error. If you receive an error, stop the test. Even 1 error is a fail. Each pass tests a different part of the ram and each of the 10 tests in each pass tests something different. It takes a minimum of 8 passes to completely test the ram, more passes are better. It is quite a long test and will take several hours depending on how much ram you have. Due to the time length it is best to run overnight. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Also, please open an elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

Thanks for the quick reply, essenbe! I appreciate your help. I have uninstalled Driver Max, and installed the latest chipset and USB drivers from the Asus website for my MB.

I ran sfc /scannow and it didn't find any integrity violations.

I re-installed the other 8GB of RAM this morning, and will run memtest86 tonight. I'll post my findings tomorrow.

I attached a fresh copy of files generated from the DM log collector, if you have time please check to see if I need to change any other drivers at this time.

    Thanks again for your help.

I ran memtest86 overnight and most of the day. 10 passes, no errors. I attached a screenshot, so you can verify that I didn't miss something.

I don't have any new dump files. What else can I check to narrow the search?

There is little we can do until you get another dump file. You can see if there are any updated Motherboard drivers. Maybe update you graphics driver using this method. NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems

Thanks for the tips. I updated a couple of other MB drivers, and updated my Nvidea driver using the method described. (I was doing it in a similar method before).

I have experienced 4-5 BSOD episodes this week, but none have generated a dump file. I have checked the dump file settings, and don't see a reason for it not to generate the file. Any ideas?

I have still been experiencing randon BSOD episodes, about 2-3 a week. Windows FINALLY generated a mini dump file this week. I have attached the new zip file, if you can review it when you have time. Thanks!

You had 2 dump files, both of them 0X124, which is a generic hardware error or a bad driver making the hardware act in unexpected ways. One of the dumps blamed

    Code:
    fffff880`009e7158 fffff880`01c0976eUnable to load image avgtdia.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for avgtdia.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for avgtdia.sys
     avgtdia+0x976e
That is a driver for your AVG anti virus. For now, lets just uninstall it and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials (Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows)

Also, please run Seatools for DOS SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use and check disk on your Mechanical hard drive Disk Check and make sure your Firmware is up to date on your SSD.

If you don't mind, please list your Power Supply and CPU Cooler in your system specs and include the Manufacturer and model please. You are also having a lot of errors with HD-Frontend which is most likely your Bluetooth.

Thanks for following up. I uninstalled AVG and am now using Microsoft Security Essentials. I uninstalled BlueStacks and installed a newer version. When I wiped the SSD and reinstalled Win7 a couple of months ago, I was getting BSOD episodes before I installed BlueStacks, just so that you have more information to work with.

I ran Seatools for DOS on my HHD. I did the short test and it passed. I ran Disc Check on both drives with no errors, and Samsung Magician says that my SSD firmware is up to date.

I entered my power supply info into my profile. My CPU cooler is the stock one that Intel supplied with the processor.

Sometimes I get a BSOD within 30-60 seconds of booting up, so I doubt that heat is causing the issue.

Thanks again for your time and input!
