Defaults on you board should be the sata controller in AHCI mode. They must have been in some other mode. But, with your SSD, you should be in AHCI. Click the start button, type device manager, in device manager, find IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, click the arrow on the left of it to expand it. You should see something like series 6 AHCI controller. I am running a different Asus board and Chipset but this is what you ate looking for. Tell me if that is what you found.

    Hi Essenbe,

the Device manager IDE should be attached. If it is listed, then the SSD should be using AHCI?

Did one checkdisk last night and it was fine.. just another 4 to go!

    thank you for our help,

I am not sure what you are asking. Unless you have some very old IDE devices, you don't need IDE. I don't think your board has an IDE connection on the Motherboard anyway. IDE is just a sata mode. All sata devices will run on AHCI sata mode. Just make sure your SSD is connected to port 0 or 1, which are controlled by the chipset.

    Hi Essenbe,

apologies for the lack of clarity.

when I start up I have a Jmicron dos like page that says something along the lines of no AHCI drive attached.
This is shown before I get to the windows start up screen [the black page with the microsoft logo animated which then leads to the blue welcome loading screen].

BUT, if the device manager is showing the AHCI controller, then is it safe to assume that the SSD is using AHCI?
The SSD is showing in Location 0 [Channel 1, Target 0, Lun 0] in Local Disk (C:) Properties -> hardware tab -> device properties

    thank you for your help,

Yes, it is safe to assume. If you want to make sure, you can look in BIOS. I believe the Asus boards it should be under the Advanced tab, sata configuration. It should say AHCI mode. That controls all of your Chipset sata ports (usually 0-5 I believe on your board) But, it appears you are anyway. I believe AHCI is the default setting with your board, plus you are not showing any IDE controllers in Device manager.

ah, I have had a bit of a major F*** up... I have a mirrored RAID, In resetting the BIOS to default, the SATA changed from RAID to AHCI. Only realized once I was getting some terrible performance from my files.

I have now reverted my BIOS to RAID... and a lot of my files on the RAID drive are showing as corrupted...
    Would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thank you

I am pretty sure that when you broke the raid array, the volume was corrupted. You would have to start over to have the raid array. I am pretty sure that is right. I am not sure why you would run a mirrored raid. Raid is not a backup and slows your computer down considerably. We see numerous problems here with raid. Raid 1 is really a server function and not necessary or useful in a desktop machine. You can try and see if the raid volume will rebuild, but I really doubt it. It is your decision whether to use raid or not, but, if you do, I would suggest that raid is not a backup.

Also, I hope when you switched hardware you did a clean install. Otherwise, you are going to have problems.

    Hi
yes, I am aware the RAID is not a back up. I am guessing the files I have updated since accidentally turning off raid will be corrupted? The other *should* [hopefully] be fine?

Restoring from back up as I type.

    sorry, which hardware switch?

    thank you for your help

Sorry, I got threads confused. I get them confused when I get involved with too many. My apologies.
