Random BSOD ... BAD THREAD TITLE! I know...but this box isn't big eno
Short version of a long story:
My wife was using a Dell Precision T5500 pretty much for facebook and World of Warcraft. Over the last year the machine progressively got slower and slower, lagging through everything with no explanation, and it frequently blue screened with tabbing in or out of World of Warcraft. It would also frequently stop the video card and disconnect her game. We ran blue screen view and commonly the crashes ID'ed win32k.sys and nostkrnl.dll in the descriptions. One somewhat informed fellow told me it was a memory issue.
Fast forward to two weeks ago (16 days to be super precise). Instead of trying to fix her computer, I built her a new one. This is what we built:
Intel Core i5-4570, Sapphire Radeon R9 280, Raidmax Super Hurricane (Black) - System Build - PCPartPicker
However, the memory was backordered so I used 12gb of of Sector 7 stuff I had on hand.
We installed Windows 7 pro 64x.
In the interim, I wiped the T5500, installed 8gb (4X2) of new memory, and went on about my life.
All was right with the world.
Until last Saturday. BSOD. Out of nowhere. Same ntoskrnl and win32k listed. Exactly the same thing. Again, it seemed to happen while she was tabbing in and out of World of Warcraft. Then, today, it happened while we weren't even home.
The kicker ~ the T5500 crashed yesterday. Same crash as before (I wasn't playing anything at the time).
One more little bit of information is that I was getting the same crashes on my old XPS720.
The common links between all of these machines are they're all installed from the same retail purchase Win 7 disc and they all have nVidia card drivers (the XPS had a GTX280, the T5500 has a GTX560, and the new build has an R9).
I had one fellow tell me it was our lack of an SP1 update so I did that to the missus' new machine this morning...and two crashes this evening.
I do not have the DM log the "guide" requests, but I do have the blue screen view logs if that's any help at all. When I can get back to the machine I'll try to get the log requested.
