AMD Catalyst AutoDetect detects wrong GPU

    Hey!

So, I'm helping a friend get some new parts for his computer, so I basically replaced everything except the HDDs. Now the weird thing is that when I try to install the appropriate GPU driver I get a BSOD. The file causing the BSOD is Atihdw76.sys.

I think it has to do with it detecting a GPU (which isn't and hasn't been installed on the computer as far as I know). The previous GPU was something along the lines of ATI Radeon 5250.

The current GPU which i'm trying to install drivers for is ASUS 7970 MATRIX.

I've made a clean install on the computer since I thought it might be an issue with some files persisting on the HDD, but I still got the same error which seemed pretty strange.

I now found out that even though I thought I made a clean install the old Windows files got saved in the Windows.old folder.

Could it be some old files that's causing this issue?

All the info in my system specs are correct except for the OS (this one is 32bit) and the HDDs.

Just a quick question before I take a look at your dumps but is the PC running Windows 8 by any chance?

After some digging around I found out that the GPU that is detected is the integrated graphics. Which I never thought of. I'll have a look and see why it isn't recognizing the GPU as part of the system atm.
