Just do the install. Make sure the hard drive you install windows on is the only one connected during the install, then use this tutorial Clean Install Windows 7. In the advanced options, I would delete the partition first then install.

Darn, I didn't answer that question from you. You could have just left it in. But, yes, just shut down, put the card back in, start up and windows should recognize it. Then install the drivers for the card. I'm sorry, I forgot to answer that one.

Nick for your GPU; download the driver linked below and save it somewhere convenient.

download

Install the card and power up, let Windows detect the card and install whatever driver it sees fit. Then follow NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems to install the driver you downloaded and saved.

EDIT: Steve beat me to it.

You are more than welcome for what little help I gave. It is good that you are going slow. Test it out until you are sure it is stable, then install another program, rinse and repeat. It will take longer to do it that way, but if you are using a program that is causing you the problems, you will know which one it is pretty quickly.

Hmmm,! just put the graphics card back in, the pc will not boot, it comes on but does not show anything on the monitor
either from the default hd4600 onboard card or the gpu.
bit stumped here guys, no idea what is going on, it is seated correctly and screwed in.

The only motherboard driver I have installed is the lan driver.

as soon as I take the card out the pc boots again.

Did you connect the Power cables to the card? Do the fans come on the card? Is the Monitor set for the type of input from the graphics card? Is the monitor connected to the graphics card and not the on board graphics? Just a few things off the top of my head. When the board detects an X16 graphics card, it disables the on board graphics.

I never disconnected the power cables, I just took it off the motherboard.
I think I will look again tomorrow, so windows should see the new hardware without any other drivers installed but the lan driver by me?

Sorry, the fans are not on.
