What about Black Screen of Death?

I have never had a BLUE Screen of Death, but on wakening from sleep sometimes I get a Black screen with big lettering offering options like Safe Mode and Restart Windows Normally (which I choose) and all is normal.

Apart form having a blue background, what else is on a BSOD?

Thanks.

"Start windows normally" option is contained in two common black screens. The Windows Error Recovery screen and the Advanced Boot Options screen.

The description says the screen contains the Safe Mode option in that screen too. So it is the Advanced Boot Options screen. Anyway, it is odd that waking up from sleep takes the computer to Advanced Boot Options. This is how we can access to that screen: Advanced Boot Options

If you have a doubt, follow the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions and attach the generated data with your reply post, we will have a look .

Maybe the PC is set to automatically restart on system failure and that's why a BSOD isn't displayed ?
I would check settings to make sure Automatically restart is unchecked, and creating a dump file is configured.

Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings

I have set it not to automatically start, so will see what happens (although I dread the thought of a BSOD).

Thanks.

You're welcome.

Changing the setting to not Automatically restart will not cause a BSOD.
It will just let you know if you do get a BSOD (without knowing it), because the BSOD screen is not displayed with Auto restart.

If you do see a BSOD screen now, post files using instructions from Arc in post #3:
