    Unexpected Icon change!

    Hi all,

Well, this is not actually a Crash or BSOD.. but it must be some kind of flaw or error, and I couldn't find anywhere else to put it.

My problem is very simple. As you can see om my screenshot, most of my icon's has suddenly been replaced with some kind of Default Icon. I don't know why this happend, and I can't find any way to get them back to the way they were.

So, does anyone of you guys have any idea of what happend here?

    Cheers

You are not alone, though mine and others I have seen have only been application icons (I had/have this going on with the icons in my start menu). You can right click the icons, go properties and change them, if you're inclined. Otherwise, system restore will set them back to normal.

This is clearly a bug in 7 as MANY MANY people have been posting about this lately!

    Hi awenthol,

Thanks for your reply. Well, its both nice and sad to hear that this is a well known problem, at least I now know it wasn't me who did something wrong.. This installation is only 2 weeks old, and I almost haven't installed anything yet, so it's kind of funny I'm already running in to this problem. I don't know if I want to do a system restore on an installation that young, I think I'll rather go for the full install again, or maybe wait for a service pack or something.

But thanks again, and, could you please tell me where in my profile i pick those flags you and many others have underneath you name and post counts?.. :)

    Cheers

The Incarnit?.. Sorry, but I do not know what that means.

Anyway, I tried to follow the "Thumbnail Cache - Clear and Reset" guide you posted, but it had no effect. I guess it only works for Thumbnails, and not Icons. But thanks for trying.. :)

EDIT: Arhh.. I see, it was a link.. now it makes more sense.. And now I can tell you that that person has nothing to do with me.

    Cheers

OK, I'm back, and with good news.. The deletion of IconCache.db worked like a charm. All Icons are back to normal.

Thanks for your help and the link.. :)
