Error screen randomly appeared. No 0x0(etc etc) given.

I was using my laptop, which is a HP DV6500 laptop, Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit, and i got nothing as far as the 0x0 code you usually get. I did not get an actual BSOD, but a bunch of lines across the screen. But when it rebooted, it told me it had shut down unexpectedly, and the event name was Blue Screen. I looked through the event viewer and found a few errors. One actually says this, and the words "Processor Core" got my attention. (Just to say, i'm not that good with the technical detailed stuff.)

"A fatal hardware error has occurred.

    Reported by component: Processor Core
    Error Source: Machine Check Exception
    Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
    Processor ID: 1

The details view of this entry contains further information."

I'm basically clueless and wanted some help. Processor is AMD 64 Athlon X2 Dual core 1.8GHZ.

Sorry for the really late reply. But i ran the stress test program for 27 minutes and got no errors. This laptop is now non working. Went to install fresh copy of Windows 7 because a bunch of things were acting up, so i decided to start fresh. So i was installing it, and then at the "Completeing Installation" stage of the install, after about 5 minutes, it crashes and a bunch of white and blue diagonal lines are on the screen. If i try to boot it normally, it just gets stuck at a black screen. I tried again around 4 or 5 times and the same exact thing happened at the same stage. I have used this Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit disk to install W7 on my other laptop and my desktop tower, and it worked very well on those. .Just for the heck of it, i tried and installed Windows XP and NT and both went on with absolutely no errors and ran very well. So, why is this laptop refusing Windows 7? I am stumped. Me and my friend, who is really good with computers, have been working on this for about 4 days now and can not figure it out at all. I hope some one has a solution. This really gets me.
