BSOD when trying to boot into Windows.

Hey guys,

So I've been trying to fix my sister's computer, she's been getting these BSOD's when trying to boot into windows, and it constantly goes into a loop. At first it boots up fine, then the windows logo shows up briefly and then goes into BSOD ,and then restarts instantly. I wish i could tell you guys what the BSOD said, but I couldn't find an option in the BIOS to turn off the instant reboot after system failure and the BSOD just goes by too quickly to see what it says.

Specs:

Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
Asus M2n Sli Deluxe
4 gigs of DDR2 Corsair ram
Amd quad-core CPU
Nvidia 9800 Geforce gt
650 watts Corsair psu
320 gigs Western digital HD

Now, I'm pretty sure that the hard drive is the culprit here, as I've tried one of my own hard drives in the computer and it booted into windows just fine. As for what I've tried so far: I've ran bootrec.exe (FixMbr, Fixboot, ScanOs and RebuildBcd) commands from the recovery options when I booted into the windows installation cd, and that didn't help. Especially the "bootrec.exe /scanOs" command which is supposed to show all installations of windows from the hard drive didn't return any results at all...Isn't it supposed to return the windows install from the hard drive? It's like it's not recognizing it. The computer does recognize the hard drive in the BIOS. I've also tried running the "chkdsk /r" command in the command prompt of the recovery options, but it wouldn't let me since it said that it was write protected.

Could the hard drive just be fried? Regardless, any help is appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Hi Soulfly,

From the installation disk, open command prompt and enter the command
Code:
start msconfig
In msconfig, go to the tab boot check the box of safe mode to enable safe mode, click apply > ok.
Reboot the system and see if you can get in safe mode as first step.

I've figured it out, I made a boot cd with paragon adaptive restore 2010 and it fixed everything, works like a charm now. Thanks for your reply though, appreciate it!
