BSOD 0x00000116

Attached is a picture of the BSOD I am getting, any suggestions? I think it is something to do with videos, but I'm not sure. Should I try updating my drivers? This started happening shortly after I did the recommended Windows Update that my computer automatically does.

Thanks!

Hi uncfan7,

Welcome to the 7forums.

The 0x116 simply says that the graphics drivers couldn't respond anymore, because the delay of their responding is getting too much there is a bugcheck called to prevent data corruption/loss.

Please uninstall everything of Nvidia/AMD/Intel using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from your manufacturer.
This because only updating doesn't always remove the older driver thus causes BSOD's because the older driver wasn't removed (properly).

Thank you for the help!! I was impatient and tried playing around with it a little more before seeing your response... I definitely should have waited though!

I tried running it in safe mode and updating the drivers through AMD's website, but it stopped halfway through the install with an error message. I then thought I would try to see if any Windows Updates were available in regular mode, and saw there were 12 new ones. 11 of them updated and 1 had an error. It said to restart my computer to finish updating so I did that.

During the restart/update it seemed to freeze. It was stuck on the same screen for about 30 minutes so I tried pressing " CTRL + ALT + DLT" but that did nothing. I then held down the power button and it shut off. I turned it back on a few minutes later and the same thing happened. I turned it off and on again and it said "Configuring Windows updates 35% complete Do not turn off your computer." It stayed on this screen for 30 minutes so I manually shut it down again. During the next restart a black screen came up that said "one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency." After checking the disk I am now back at the "Configuring Windows updates 35% complete Do not turn off your computer" screen :/ It has been stuck on this screen for about 15 minutes.

I will let it sit on this screen for a few more hours and hopefully it will eventually finish updating. If it does finish updating I will try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers like you suggested. Will I be able to do this in safe mode - networking? My computer crashes if I access the internet not in safe mode.

If the screen stays stuck on the 35% complete updating screen do you have any advice to get it off that?

Thank you very much!!

Download the right drivers via another pc, remove the drivers and install them local without accessing the internet.

If it keeps on 35%, let it run for a night and see how it goes.

Update complete and computer turned on

Just to make sure I understand correctly, I should plug an external hard drive into a working computer, download the drivers onto the external hard drive, and then plug the external hard drive into the broken computer?

I guess before I plug the external drive into the broken computer I will want to uninstall the current drivers though. Should I just uninstall the current drivers through the control panel since I cannot access internet on the broken computer and therefore cannot use the Display Driver Uninstaller you mentioned?

Also, in case it is helpful, I have a Lenovo Ideapad U400.

Thank you!
Kate

An USB should be enough for both the drivers and Display Driver Uninstaller.

Thank you!!

In downloading the new drivers onto a USB, I am having trouble finding a download for one of the two graphics drivers.
My computer says it is running:
AMD Radeon. HD 6470M (version 8.851.0.0)
and
Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics (version 8.851.0.0)
I found the download for the correct version of the AMD driver (Laptops and netbooks :: IdeaPad U Series laptops :: IdeaPad U400 - Lenovo Support (US)) but the only one I see for the Intel Driver is a different version. Is it ok to download the newer version of the Intel driver? It doesn't list my computer (Ideapad U400) as being compatible with the new version. Here is a link to the new version Intel HD Graphics Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit) - ThinkPad Edge E430, Edge E430c, Edge E530, Edge E530c, Lenovo B430 - Lenovo Support (US)

Sorry for all the questions! I really do appreciate the help though!

Because I don't have any information about your system I cannot specific say what driver is causing the problem and what driver you need.
I would let Lenovo search for the drivers, it can be done from support - lenovo

Unfortunately, I tried that but it doesn't show that any Intel driver is needed for my device The only graphics driver listed is the AMD one. I guess I'll just try it with the AMD one and skip the Intel one for now?

Could you provide me the logs from BSOD Posting Instructions?

This so I can specify it a little more
