You're getting NO bsod whatsoever? Are you overclocking? Nothing in event viewer?

No BSOD it's as if you were to abruptly cut power to the system. No overclocking on this machine. The event viewer, under critical says, "Event ID: 41, Source: Kernel-Power, Log: System." I'm not too familiar with how to use event viewer, if there's any specific info that would help, let me know and I will look in there for it.

I used some electrical tape to get the sink/fan to sit on the CPU properly. Now the system is no longer running slowly and CPU usage is back to normal. No crash so far, but I will let you know. I guess the system was running slowly because the CPU was too hot. According to AI Suite II, the CPU is now running at 37 Celsius. I guess the problem was with the heat sink/fan. It's strange because there was only maybe a millimeter of wiggle room and only on the top half of the CPU, but I guess that is all it takes. Maybe I should look into getting a new heat sink/fan. I'm not sure if this has solved the original issue or if we are just back to square one. I'll have to wait and see. Hopefully this solves it though. Thanks for all your help, I never would have figured it out if you hadn't suggested checking the thermal paste.

Update: I was able to get the sink/fan to sit properly. It's not perfect, but at least it doesn't need the tape and it's secured appropriately.

Great, I'm happy you are getting somewhere here. Yea, from the start your temps were high, which can certainly cause problems. See how it goes. If you're using stock heatsink, ditch that thing. I don't think anyone that buys an i7 uses the stock one.

Yeah, it is the stock one. I'll look into some other options.
