    Morning Roy,

I have downloaded and run Malwarebytes with the settings as you suggested but it didn't detect any threats.

It is perplexing that the updates fail and when I run sfc /scannow it reports problems with system files that it cannot fix.

    It's a mystery - to me at least :)

    Regards.

The results of system file check doesn't say much to me, I'll keep it with the BSOD part :)

There are some reports of this weeks round of windows updates causing sfc failures so that result could be a false positive

    group policy

Hunting around found a post regarding group policy settings causing a problem when the TrustedIinstaller.exe default is changed.

If you have set it to MANUAL change it back to automatic.

    Hi Roy,

Should there have been a link in your latest post? If so I'm not seeing it.

wrt group policies I know what they are but haven't edited them before (as far as I can recall) so a step by step idiots guide would be most appreciated.

    Many thanks.

    GP settings

    Hi Mike,
The settings for that line are fine, its pushing me towards a group policy restriction

Can you hit Win+R, and in the run box type
rsop.msc >>>then enter, it might take a few moments to respond.
    and post the results.

    oops

    Hi Mike,
    Cant get to read it,
can you just copy and paste it.

I would still like to know what malware/virus MSE found, its removed it on at least 6 occasions.

the other repeated problem is your system time its always out of sync, which may be the cause of the update failures. Replace your CMOS battery (CS2032) they can be bought at most motor factors.
