BSOD playing Rocket league - and issues with 360 controller + USB port

Of the xbox 360 controller? I've looked into this, I have the 2009 controller driver installed (it auto installs with the device, I think). There's also a 2006 controller and I avoid that. I don't think there's any more recent drivers, at least I can't find any for windows 7.

FYI, I tried uninstalling the driver, restarted the computer, and reconnected the controller. It reinstalled just fine (from the controller, presumably), the 2009 version, and then proceeded to BSOD. Restarted again with controller plugged in, got a BSOD within 2 minutes.

Testing now. It might take a while to see if it crashes. One more piece of info, I uninstalled the 360 drivers I could, so it reverted back to the 2006 version. I notice in Device manager there is a Microsoft Common Controller For Window Class (the controller), but also in Human Interface Devices there is a HID-compliant game controller. I'm pretty sure both appear when you plug in the controller. And when I update the drivers for the controller, the HID-compliant game controller doesn't get upgraded. Also in the HID section is a HID-compliant consumer control device, dunno if that's related to the controller at all.

EDIT: just as a reminder, the controller and game work fine for about 1-2 minutes before it freezes and BSOD.

Tried it on another computer, same 2009 driver. Didn't have rocket league on that one (it's an older one, still windows 7), played a few emulated games with the controller and the Window's Chess for good measure, no signs of crashing. Can I ask what the BDOS crash report suggests is the issue?

Edit: here's some more interesting info. I found another controller meant for use on the Wii U, Buy Afterglow Wii U Pro Controller at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Nintendo Wii U accessories., that plugs into the USB port. It appears that this uses a "USB Input Device" driver in the Device Manager. This, too, causes the same freeze / BSOD as the 360 controller! Doesn't look like it's supposed to work with PC's anyway (didn't install any special drivers), but interesting regardless.

More info .. I tried what this guy suggested here: BSOD driver framework error, while using wired xbox 360 controller . Manually deleted all drivers associated with the controller. Checked device manager and the controller's driver details were empty. Ran the xbox driver updater, restarted, searched for the driver manually, installed them, looked the same as before - didn't work. Which I sort of expected, looks like Sys32/drivers is full of temporary files, not the actual drivers (which are stored in DriverStore ?).

I noticed you only had 0x116(VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE) crashes.
TDR stands for Timeout Detection and Recovery, with the 0x116 it means that the drivers didn't respond, Windows noticed it and tried to get them functioning again but failed within the amount of time (30s). A 0x116(VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE) has some frequently occuring causes like:

dust,
drivers,
overheating,
slot,
PSU,
GPU
Improper seating

As you described the crash happens when the controller is connected, which is why I focused on the controller part.
But I would like to switch back to the drivers part.

Please make sure your USB network driver is updated, I would recommend to not use the USB network adapter while troubleshooting as it sometimes causes problems.

One more symptom I forgot to mention. Immediately after a crash, the computer has a tough time starting up - it doesn't reach the ASUS screen before the windows startup, the monitor display just says no signal. To fix, I need to manually power cycle the computer and mess with plugging stuff in/out of the usb ports. Then I can disable the 360 driver, unplug the device, and this problem never happens again (until the next BSOD, of course).

Driver Booster 3 is long gone.

I wasn't sure where to find the first driver because it isn't directly linked, but I downloaded the 2nd to top one here (64 bit):

And then I downloaded the third to top one here: Realtek

I then disconnected my usb wifi, installed both, it reset once, finished installing, reset again. Then, keeping the usb wifi adapter unplugged, I opened up Rocket League in offline mode (I have no ethernet access), plugged in the controller ... still crashes. Crash log attached.

Looks like no more windows update problems. It does say I have 64 optional updates I can download... I guess I'll do those in the mean time.

I checked the controller driver and the conclusion would be that you need to update the drivers for it or not use it.
The driver at current state is known for causing bluescreens.

Yes, I noticed that other people have been having problems with it too. However, I think I got the controller in 2012, and it's been working fine until this last week. Furthermore, I mentioned I tried to plug in another controller to my system, and that crashed it too. And finally there are no more recent drivers for the controller, only 2006 and 2009 ones. I have a bad feeling in my stomach that I will go out and buy a new controller and the same exact thing will happen, and I'll have wasted more money and time when the issue is really something else (e.g. hardware, or another driver) - as I mentioned, the controller seems to work fine on other computers.
