Hi scott and thanks for posting the information!

Well your problem is the graphics card caused the issues you were/are facing. You would need to perform a complete uninstall and reinstall of the graphics card drivers. I wouldn't use the built in Windows uninstall a program because most of the times it leaves a lot of stuff behind I would rather use something like Revo Uninstaller to completely remove everything from NVIDIA!

    Cheers, Boris :)

Thanks for the answer, this is probably a dumb question..... where would I find the new drivers for my card? If you could point me in the right direction it would really help.

If I can find the drivers, I will let you know how it goes tomorrow.

Also, I was thinking about upgrading to windows 10...... any thoughts on that?

Again.....thank you so much!!!! would gladly pay you if sent a bill. In fact I would dump this thing at your front door if you lived close by for you to fix it, whatever the cost :)

Thanks again..... Have a good Sunday!

    Hi scott.

You can check your drivers here, I would use the auto detect as it might be the best option:
    Drivers | GeForce

Oh and hm well W10, I can't really complain. I like it quite a lot, I use it daily, of course it is a big step if you've been with 7 but if you really want advice and stuff like that you can make a thread in the General Discussion sub forum and I'll bet people will give you a tsunami of advice and thoughts on it!

And totally agree with you that getting paid for doing this would be nice but here we have on this site a different kind of showing ones appreciation, it's called reputation and it's the weighing scale in between my online status and report post, if I happen to solve your problem then you can click it.

    Cheers, Boris :)

Sorry, one more question on your thoughts. Would you recommend getting a new graphics card? I have a CAD type program I use a lot for drawing homes and other construction projects. And I use a lot of graphic stuff, especially phtotoshop. Then again, I started doing a lot of video creation and editing.

Any thoughts appreciated. If you think I should upgrade, could you give me a few ideas on what I should be looking for.

Thanks again....you're help has been awesome.

I found the rep tab and gave you some much deserved rep love :)

I've got 4 other puters that could use some love.....maybe I'll be lucky enough to get you when I post each puter problem.

Again....thank you very much......5:30 am, time for me to get some shut eye :)

No worries I've got plenty of time to kill.

Well maybe if you feel like it, CAD does use the GPU but on the other Photoshop, video creation and editing doesn't, those are all CPU dependent, and having fast RAM combined with that won't hurt.

So maybe a completely new system but this is 100% up to you, I mean yes I can recommend stuff but in the end you'll have to do the hard choices.

Oh you are most welcome and thanks for the rep!

    Fun 4 more ^_^

And again you are most welcome.

Hey Boris, hope you're still around :)

I was just about to post my results and make the thread as completed when it crashed again.

I upgraded drivers as you suggested, first the nvidia using the app that you gave a link to.

Next I did a scan of the complete machine for drivers using
Download Driver Booster 3 Pro - Update PC Drivers Easily - IObit

I couldn't purchase the tweakbit app that you suggested. Tried for a couple of hours using
multiple credit cards but the sale would not go through so I found the iobit app, ran it and
it upgraded a whole bunch of drivers.

My machine ran great for a day or two and just tonight it crashed without warning. Did not get
the BSOD, but just a black screen, computer looked like it was laboring....waiting 20 minutes
or so and turned the machine on and off. Rebooted and everything loaded.

I had an app or two open, but I had a bunch of firefox tabs open, maybe that caused it.

I was hoping you might take a look and see if there might be any other problems.

Again....thank you so much for your help, really appreciate it.

    Best Wishes,
    Scott

After I rebooted it stayed on for about 30 minutes. Then it crashed again, now it will not reboot.

After I push the power button, it will appear to boot up, Resuming windows appears and screen goes black, looks like drive is accessing but screen stays black.... sometimes a cursor in top left flashing, like an old dos cursor, big and white.

tried to power on an off a couple of times.... nothing.

    thanks

Unfortunately I have never suggested any tweakbit for you, and honestly products from IObit might not be the smartest decision, sometimes they have proved to cause more problems rather than fixing the original ones.

Yes it's a nice tool but I would be a little bit cautious.

In the zip file there were no BSODs, so what you are facing might be something else, what I don't know at this point, I will however try to solve it for you!

I did not realize choice of program was so critical..... I was in a hurry and the "tweakbit" sale just would not go thru, tweakbit was the link you gave me but I don't see it in any of the above posts, anyway, I was able to download something from tweakbit but could not activate it until I paid......thats where the problem came in, they would not accept my credit cards....so I looked for something else, in retrospect, I should had ran the substitution by you first.... dumb move on my part, I get what I deserve ...surprising thing is that it worked so well for a period of time.

I'm the bad guy, not you.... I really appreciate whatever insight you can give into this. Since I do not know too much about these things, I can be a little vulnerable.... that
