Either the RAM and/or 1 or more slot(s) is faulty, you should take the time to proper go through the process, it is time consuming but once done people usually find out it is the RAM and can simply replace it.
If 1 or more slots turns out to be faulty, you could simply not use it anymore but it is not recommended to use a motherboard on which a component is faulty.

I agree with axe to a point personally I would test each stick in slot 1 if the errors come up on an individual stick then you have to culprit and should bin it. If there are no errors on any of the sticks then carry on to test each stick in slot 2 then 3 if no errors then slot 4 because it can be one of the slots.

Si in essence hope that the errors come up in a stick in slot one and you will have to bin that stick/s.

My advice is that even if you find the bad stick then I would buy myself a single stick 8GB and use it instead of the four you have - that avoids any mucking around with multiple sticks and also gives you the option to up the RAM by 2GB using the good sticks if you should want to. Now it is your budget but it is what I would do RAM isn't that expensive these days unless you go for some high profile stuff if you should need it.

Ok mate now your board is really a nice one and has plenty of capacity for RAM and the reason I suggested a single stick of 8GB RAM to simplify matters.

Having said it also has to be taken into consideration that the CPU uses channels to access the RAM so if it were me I would get a matched pair of 4GB sticks simply because they come off the same production batch of RAM so the probability of them being slightly different in operation is minimal. Unless I am terribly wrong using two channels (paired slots) is a more efficient/faster way for the CPU to access RAM space.

If you are interested this is a fairly lengthy but informative link on the use of RAM Everything You Need to Know About the Dual-, Triple-, and Quad-Channel Memory Architectures - Hardware Secrets < see the bit about enabling dual channel

Thanks again mate for all your assistance.

Given the low cost of ram would I be okay to utilise two 8GB sticks?

If I get two sticks does it matter which slots they are fitted into?

Cheers

It does due to dual channel configuration, but looking at your motherboard it shouldn't be difficult to do it proper.
In either of the below circles should the modules be seated into.

Yep well just look at the manual for that board it should tell you which slots are to be used first. Usually it is 1&3 - whichever colours they are or 2&4 because they lined up to channels as in that link I posted.

Hi Guys

Just by way of feedback, I have replaced the RAM with two new 8GB sticks and then did the Memtest for about 27 hours making 10 passes.

So far so good as no errors have shown up yet - fingers crossed. I'll try out PC for a few days and hopefully I'll be BSOD free - if so I'll pop back and mark as solved.

Thanks again for all your help.
