    I guess all is not solved. I haven't been able to get a driver installed for the DVD drives. They show up in the bios, but windows is unable to find a driver I guess. Would it have something to do with that missing file? They did work fine before all my troubles started. I have an LG GH22LP20 and a Lite On LH-20A1. The LG works better and is IDE the Lite-On is SATA

    Roxio and Nero are notorious for these kind of problems. I don't use them .

    Suggest you uninstall It - I think they have a special tool to do that. It should be on their website.

    You might still need to remove some registry settings manually - try this extremely well known fix:

    Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

    I have also come up against the missing drives with Roxio;

    Its the way Roxio takes over your ATAPI devices, check out other Roxio forums on help to uninstall you will be surprised just how many people are affected with issues around Roxio.

    I think the file system is been corrupted, You can try the under given command after attaching your hard drive on another machine;

    CHKDSK /R /F C: where C mean your corrupted windows Drive.

    I installed software that came with my Sony Handycam HDR-SR8 and ended up with the same symptoms - W7 would not boot. Here's what I did.

    Use command prompt to rename pxhelp20.sys to pxhelp20.bat
    Now it should reboot but it might be that you don't have any CD drives working so...
    Edit the registry key

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    Rename the line "LowerFilters" to "LowerFilters.bak" if it has pxhelp in it. Reboot and that should be you sorted.

    This did work for me to edit the registry, but I am wondering if you are still able to use your camera software. Was it Picture Motion Browser and the Sony Picture Utility with my Sony Handy Cam HDR CX7? I can't even find it in the add remove programs, and when I try to install the update for Windows 7 64 bit it claims I can't because I don't have in installed on my computer. I can however run PMB, but can't use the handycam utility to burn a DVD. With xp and would pop the MS in my card reader and use the utility to burn a disk easy as could be.So perhaps it wasn't really Roxio, but Sony that is the culprit? I uninstalled Roxio.

    I never use the Sony software to burn a disc. The Picture Motion Browser does work but I've not tested for a disc burn. So does the Handycam utility and player for AVCHD.
    Typically I'll download from the camera with the sony software, edit usually with Pinnacle Studio 14, and burn with either PS14 or Nero.
    I burned a pile of discs yesterday so all is fine.

    I would like to update to the latest version on the PIcture MOtion Browser, but it will not as I get an error message that Picture Motion Browser isn't installed, which of course it is, but something went wrong with the installation and it isn ot listed in teh Add/Remove programs for me to uninstall. If I reinstall, I end up with the same problem as before with my computer not booting up. I would sure like a solution to this and have tried everywhere I can think of including Sony. I don't now if this is a Windows 7 error or Sony. I did reinstall the Sony Software and then Windows did a startup repair, it however didn't show the pxhelp20 file after the repair, but I did have to edit the registry again for my DVD drives to show up. I am wondergin if startup repair just did a system restore as after the boot I had Roxio Content 9 back on. I guess if I could just figure how to get Picture Motion Browser uninstalled then I would be happy.

    What about you install the original PMB but don't reboot. Then install the upgrade. Worth a try if you want the upgrade so much?!

    I'm pretty much getting the identical problem. Having installed other programs....no problem. I also installed Sony Vegas without a hitch and am able to view my old files without any problem.

    When I go to install the Picture Motion Browser/Utility program I get the same problem. I've done it a few different ways and the results are the same. I downloaded the latest version off of Sony's website and installed. Once installed, the computer goes to re-boot and gets an error that says "cannot start windows, looking for problem to fix".....after about 5 minutes, the computer reboots again and then into windows normally. The first time, I had installed other items such as Firefox and my printer drivers without rebooting and then installed the Picture Motion program. Once I went through the "fixing of windows" the last two items were no longer there (firefox and printer driver). I then had to re-install again.

    After searching the web, I found a page that said install the original version and then upgrade. I tried this with version 2.xx and basically got the same result again.

    My conclusion, I can't get Sony's Picture Utility program to work and am unable to import any current files from my SR5 HD camera at this point.

    Love to find some solution.......
