BSOD after an update last week

Hello, I'm new to the forum, so first off please pardon me if I sound computer illiterate or illiterate in general; but I want to give you as much detail as I can regarding this issue.

So, on 6/14/16 my computer did a large update(took about an hr) and the following afternoon I started noticing crash issues. At first they were happening so frequently I had tried to do a system restore but to no avail it froze every time in the middle of trying to restore. I tried this about 5 times, going as long as 10 hrs (let it "recover" while I was asleep) but it just keeps on a black screen. If I hold power and force it to restart it basically continues on like nothing happened :/ . So I don't think I can rely on a system restore to help me. Fast forward to about 4 days ago I noticed that the crashes happen much more frequently when using anything with audio (Playing games, watching movies, youtube videos). So I'm getting a bit suspicious something is going on with my audio files? I left my computer on while it did a mem test earlier and it passed not to mention this went on for 5 hrs and my computer didn't crash. However leave my computer on for 30 mins while I AFK with a video game on, and I come back to a "Windows did not shutdown successfully" error indicating that it restarted while I was temporarily away. I did download the required file so I hope that I can get some help on this; my baby has served me well for almost 3 full years and no errors what so ever until last week. I'm really hoping a factory reset is my last resort, because as an art student I would have to redownload and save a lot of art programs, hardware, and images that I'd rather avoid having to do that. If that is however what will end up have to happen, I take comfort in knowing that it is coming from someone more knowledgeable on the topic. Thanks in advance.
