 DRIVER VERIFIER

warning   Warning
Please make a backup of your important files and get your rescue media or create one.
Please create a restore point.

Please follow this tutorial to run driver verifier.

Driver verifier stresses your drivers and will crash your pc if any driver fails due to a violation.

Driver verifier should be performed for a max of 48 hours, or when you have a bluescreen, whatever comes first.

If driver verifier has found a violation and you can't get back into windows normally, try to boot into safe mode and reset in safe mode driver verifier, or in the troubleshooting options open command prompt and type verifier /reset.

Note   Note
Your system will act very sluggishly while driver verifier is enabled, this is normal as your drivers will be being subjected to heavy testing in order to make them crash.

Ok, so I ran verifier for 48 hours, used the pc as I normally would and no crashes. As soon as I turned verifier off and rebooted, within 5 minutes I got this:

I have noticed that they seem to happen shortly after I open Chrome, I cant remember if its every time, but a lot of the times I remember it happening while I was browsing the internet. Maybe that's just coincidence but I thought it might be worth mentioning. Again no crash dump.

Does this also occur in safe mode?

Not that I am aware of, not booted in safe mode for a while, when I last did it didn't happen, but it does not happen every time I boot. I could start in safe mode but how would I know if I didn't get a BSOD because its in safe mode or because it just didn't happen today?

If you did get a BSOD, you would normally be notified about it.

What I mean is, they aren't guaranteed and I don't know what causes them, so if I boot into safe mode and I don't get a BSOD, did Safe mode prevent the BSOD from happening, or is it just a case of the criteria not being met so no BSOD was triggered?

Safe mode is a booting mode meant to troubleshoot issues that happen in normal mode, because of this only the minimum of drivers and software are loaded.
If a problem occurs in safe mode, you basically rule out all installed drivers and software. Normally only drivers from Microsoft are loaded and Windows drivers usually aren't the root cause, so you can focus on hardware troubleshooting because that's the only thing left.

Of course, if no problem occurs in safe mode it does NOT mean that the hardware is fine. Safe mode only loads the minimum and as such only uses a minimum of resources, so for example if a part of RAM is bad there is a significant chance safe mode won't use that part.

Ok, so I booted into safe mode a few times, opened Chrome as soon as the pc was ready (which is when I usually seem to BSOD) and no incidents. I could have just gotten lucky but it appears as though it does not happen in safe mode.

So today I hit 3 BSOD's before the system remained stable. All Page Fault in non paged area or Bad Pool Caller, all within 30 seconds of loading windows. I literally did nothing and which could have caused these, didn't open any programs at all. Yet again, no dump files, I am at my wits end now, any ideas?

 Clean boot

Please try the following:
  • Search msconfig and open it
    • Go to the tab services
    • Check 'hide microsoft services'
    • Uncheck all other services
    • Go to the tab startup
    • Disable everything
  • Click apply and click ok
  • Reboot if asked
See if the problem persist, if the problem does not persist enable in the startup tab in taskmanager 1 item and in the services tab in msconfig also 1 service, reboot and see if the problem persist. Keep doing this until you find the culprit or there is nothing left.
If the problem still persist, try booting in safe mode and see if the problem still persist
