High freq/pitch sounds, Really need help here
Hello everyone, Im new to these forums but i'll try my best to explain the problem Im having here. Please note: Im not sure if this is the right place to submit this thread but if it's not then please move it to the appopriate folder.
My specs are:
Intel Dp35dp motherboard
Intel Core2quad Q8200 processor
4gb ddr 667mhz
Nvidia 9500gt 1gb ddr2
Western Digital 250gb HDD
And a 500w Digix pc-case 2 year old PSU
Recently or about a month or so, Im having a very weird problem here. I installed Windows 7 RC 7600 x64 after 20 days of its release to my computer and have encountered driver problems and some other stuff but solved them myself. The PCI simple communications driver was a little bit frustrating to find but the Vista x64 driver worked just fine after its installation. So, after all that frustration I thought everything was fine, the windows worked just fine and robust and I was really happy with the performance it offered.
But, this new problem occured, after opening paint and toying a little bit with its interface a high freq/pitched sound came both from the headphones and the cpu. It's a quite noise but audiable and gets on the nerves after hearing it for too long, I tried muting the volume and sure enough, the sound stopped coming from the headphones but the cpu was still making this sound and i thought it might be a hardware problem and quickly tried to find the source. After a long time of finding the sound's source, got myself an electrical shock in the ear and felt stupid for trying to put my ear near the PSU and still couldn't get where it came from.
So, after that all work, I gave up and closed paint and the sound stopped. I thought it might be because of the software and went on doing other stuff and it did'nt came out. The next day I installed firefox and just by opening a new tab the familiar sound came from both the cpu and headphones again, frustrated, I again tried to find the source but because of its quite noise i couldn't find the source of it again, suspected that it might be the harddrive or the fans. Opened the case and unplugged the HDD and fans and also the DVD-drive, sure enough the BSOD came out but the sound was STILL THERE IN THE CPU! *sigh*
After much struggling I went on the internet and searched all around for the solution but didn't find any relevant information. So i tried doing benchmarks to find out what triggers the problem, installed hd tune to find out if it was the hdd and no sound came out, playing games also didn't trigger it, 3d benchmarks, cpu benchmarks, memory testers and the other stuff but it didn't just come out. Found it weird and decided to rollback to vista because the sound problem wasn't an issue there but vista is so bloated and buggy I missed the performance of windows 7 and decided to repartition the HDD to install it again, lost all data and didn't backup it because of thinking there might be a chance of a low-level virus.
Reinstallation completed succcessfully and I was back at the 7 desktop and the darn problem kicked in again. I got very much angry because of all the work and loss of my data plus the stupidity i have done is wasted for no reason.
Right now I suspect its the PSU causing the issue because its old and has a label that I can't find on the internet, also i have no money to burn and can't get myself a new PSU or it could be the sound driver but im not sure. It doesn't happen in vista so the suspection of the PSU is 30% but ill try to find a new reliable PSU if i can't get a workaround on this problem.
So guys, I'll really appreciate it if someone tries to give me help in this problem Im facing and I apologise for the length of this thread or if it's hard to understand because this is my first time of posting a thread and because of the frustration I faced due to this I really don't know what's causing it.
