Random System Crashes - Windows 7 Ult x64

    Hey guys,

See the attached .dmp file for those of you who might be able to view it and interpret it for me.

As far as the issues go, I have had this system for about a year and a half now. These errors have persisted for the latter half of my ownership. Its a custom build, specs below.

    Specs:

    PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW -SR
    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHz
    Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6 LGA 775 Mobo
    2 x ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 (Crossfire)
    G.Skill 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600
WD VelociRaptor WD3000GLFS 300GB 10,000RPM drive (Primary Boot HDD)
WD Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM (Secondary Storage HDD)
    SB X-Fi XtremeGamer Sound card

The system is built solid as I have been assembling custom computers for people for many years. However, with this system I've experienced random BSODs, a crash in which I can only describe as torn pixel blocks covering the screen (am then forced to use my force restart button), and black screen shutdowns.

I have ran extensive tests using Hiren's BootCD on major system components. The RAM passed extensive memtest86 tests for long durations, the Hard Drives clear after using WD manufacturer diagnostics on all facets of them, the CPU and motherboard clear with most diagnostics as well.

All of this makes me suspect a power supply issue (since the crash occurrences are so random). However, I'd like to be sure.

There, that's the best background I can give. Any suggestions? Please? :)

    Hey there.

Update your Creative driver to latest. (ctac32k ctac32k.sys Wed Jul 02 04:38:22 2008)

The bsod actually deals with atikmdag.sys which is part of the drivers for the video card. I'd say to update it but I see you're already running the latest.

Update the bios to the latest. Then use the spd tab of CPU-Z to find the exact RAM modules you're running. Then visit G. Skill's page for it and note the Vdimm (RAM voltage) and timings. Set the bios accordingly to this.

Test. If no good still, run a large room fan blowing on the open case and test how it is then. If you're overclocking anything at all, that is then a likely cause.

My Creative driver is now at the latest.. Idk why it says its that old. I'm running the windows 7 drivers. I installed them just yesterday:

Creative Worldwide Support > X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro Series

The Bios is F5, the latest stable release before the current beta bios. I'm running some more tests in the meantime and tweaking the RAM settings in the BIOS. As of right now, they're factory spec. And I don't overclock as a rule.

I'll keep testing and notify of any changes. Any other suggestions/advice appreciated however! In the middle of a debug, its helpful to have outside input.

    Thanks torrentg!

You're welcome. Let us know after you adjust the RAM. That has a decent chance of fixing. (And like I said, also test with fan to see if heat is the issue.)
