    Windows 7 stop working

Running Windows 7 Ultimate. This was an upgrade from Vista Ultimate. I had a couple of problems with Internet dropping unexpectedly and a rogue Vista Service Pack 2 trying to install all the time, but Windows 7 support was able to correct these problems.

I have had a starting problem that I needed to use the Windows 7 disk to repair the start up, but that happened just once. Since then this current problem has happened twice. I come back to the computer after several hours away, the screen was black and I was unable to get the desktop to appear. Moving the mouse didn't do anything. Only recourse was to shut down and restart.

Any ideas on why this is occurring?

Not off hand, but have you considered biting the bullet and doing a fresh install, instead of an upgrade? I've done 5 fresh installs on a variety of hardware and haven't had ANY problems with any of them. I don't believe in upgrades, frankly. Too many chances for issues.
