BSOD problems after installing dominator 1066 2x2GB ram

Since i upgraded my Ram, i have had this problem. it isnt very often but still in the last month or so i have 6 BSOD encounters. each time i was doing something different. The first few times i could remember the message was something to do with memory managment. so i went in the bios and set everything to automatic, since before i had it on manual because i wanted set the ram speed to 1066( altho i dont know if that made sense to do. not much of an overclocker). but anyways another error is the driver IRQL not less or equal.
i dont know what could cause this. but i read that updating my bios might solve it. since my bios has never been updated. however i cannot update the bios. the file from asus site doesnt work! then i downloaded an update utility for the bios from another site and i still have problems updating it.

any one out there with the same motherboard has this problem? have updated it in windows 7 64bit?

    my specs
    asus M3A79-T deluxe motherboard
    geforce 9800 GTX+
    phenom x4 9850 black edition
    corsair dominator ddr2 ram 2x 2GB

i have attached my windows dump files as were requested!

    any help would be appreciated.
    thanks,
    lomas

    Lomas Hi and welcome

Well I took a look at 5 of your dmps. There were basically all over the map. They seemed to have two themes. Memory, and hardware.

We are going to need some info about your set up. The works. computer, ram, mobo, etc.

There are several things you can do in the interim

    First
Dl and run memtestx86 overnight. the reason for that long is simple. If it is a heat issue it may tkae that long. A ram issue also may not reflect itself in a couple of hours.

    Second.
Since system files were involved I would run a system file check to verify and fix your system files

Any idea what teh BIOS rev and date are?

    Hope this helps

I hate to say this again but I had crashes more than once with this memory and my ASUS board. I ended up doing an RMA for two sets of memory before I found out that my memory voltage that was set to auto was setting the voltage too high. I would have to dig up the old post I found from others that had the same issue. I would test the memory with the Windows Memory Tester and memtestx86. If it is bad memory RMA the memory but make sure to install PC Probe 2 from ASUS and tell us what your DRAM Voltage is reading. You can also see if you can review it in the BIOS. I had to set mine manually with that RAM and with the GSkill sticks I used to replace the Dominator sticks.

I will look around for that post from the board I was on.

You can see in this thread my V reading for DRAM was over the recommended 2.1

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...60945&page=232

So I set it by hand at 2.0v which is what others recommended. I would look at your voltage rating once you get more RAM in there or once you get back your RMA.

But in the other thread of his, he said how he made the 15 timing 12. That alone will cause errors.

Seems to be user-caused errors at this point.

With correct settings, then errors, then definitely look into RMA.

I would get CPU-z and I would set it at least to auto with the exception of your memory voltage if it is indeed setting it to high. For me it was over the rated voltage so I had to knock it down. Issues is you could of already damaged the RAM and didn't even know you did. ASUS should let you set the RAM to 5-5-5-15 I know my ASUS board would let me set those timings. Maybe you have something else turned on that will not let you get those timings? Maybe turbo setting or I forget the other one that ASUS has in their BIOS. I would reset to factory defaults, set the voltage by hand if it set too high. Then I would either leave the settings at auto or set them to the 5-5-5-15 and run you tests again.

If you still have errors RMA the memory and make sure to set the correct voltage and timings on your new set of RAM.
