Explorer crashing and restarting

Hello,

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7600. Yesterday while I was working I suddenly got BSOD for a split second, and I wasn't able to see the error or anything. When I rebooted it could not find the harddrive, so I rebooted once again, and this time Windows was started. It starts rather slow, and when I finally see the desktop I can't use the process bar, or start menu nor see my icons. And it says that an error with explorer.exe was found and that it is restarting explorer.exe, and it just does this over and over again.. I have now tried to restore my system to earlier point where Windows was working properly. I have tried sfc /scannow in cmd in safe mode and I have also tried chkdsk /r none of which helped.. What more options are there? I've tried searching around as well, but with no result. I suspect that this is due to overheating, which is often a problem with HP computers. My computer is not more than a month old though.

I am not able to find the minidump folder in my %SystemRoot% folder at all. Could this be due to system restore, since I restored to a point before all this happened? I'm not able to roll back now.. :/

Yes, it could be. I guess you can wait for another crash to happen then follow the link to post the zip or rar here.

Thing is, I havn't had a single crash since, and I doubt I will.. The explorer.exe crashing seems to be a result of a harddrive failure that also caused the BSOD..

The advice given on most of the BSOD screens is - If this is the first time that you've seen this screen, wait and see if it happens again.

It seems deleting 'drive:\users\my_user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\thumbcache_idx.db' worked. I believe it has been corrupted or damaged as my computer overheated, making explorer.exe unable to initialize properly.
