windows 7 freeze Hi Guys,
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P
Ram: kingston 4 gig (2x2)
Vid: Ati Radeon 4890 (saphire)
Operating system: windows 7 pro 32-bits
I have a strange problem. Sometimes, without consistency or reason, my windows 7 boot freezes and i cannot find what the problem is. With freeze i mean, visible screen.. no mouse.. no nothing.. just a still image, no BSOD
- I have no viruses ( at least that is what my scanner says)
- Windows Log does not have an error other than "windows had an unexpected restart"
- I updated all my drivers
- No errors in ram (completed the memtest)
Now i understand that this is a tough problem to crack but can you at least give me some advice on what to do next to find it?
thanks

Did you update the bios to latest too? Try that if you haven't.
Also uninstall any firewall and antivirus to test. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

The bios versions later than the one i have only implement recognition for more cpu's. There are no major bug fixes. since it is not very safe to update bios i would prefer not to do it. Is there another way to search for the problem?
Another question. how, when the windows log does not recognize any errors can i be related to a virus?
I'm not asking these questions to be a pain but simply because i really don't know
thanks!

Hey. Ya, install the latest bios anyhow. They never ever detail all the changes made in new releases. It's always best to run latest, regardless of the precautions you may find.
It's not risky to update. Just don't cut the power or do anything to trip the circuit breaker.
Scan with Malwarebytes if you'd like. And also as I've said, uninstall the antivirus and firewall you have. I wouldn't be surprised if you said you have AVG. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 windows 7 freeze problems?
