Windows 7 black screen with cursor on boot up

So here's my story. I have a Toshiba Satellite L505-ES5018 laptop running a 64 bit Windows 7. My laptop restarted with the usual Windows updates as it went through the 4 steps and percentages to update and I logged back in. Also as it seems to happen often, the flag at the bottom right of my desktop alerted me that I still had some updates that I needed to install after installing the previous ones. I went through the control panel, System and Security, and started to download the extra updates through Windows Update. The updates installed, the laptop restarted, and my log in screen came up and everything seemed normal. I wanted to take a nap so I put my laptop on hibernate from the log in screen. When I woke up however and pressed the power button to wake it back up, the Toshiba boot up screen showed up but after that there was only a black screen with the blinking cursor in the top left corner which has prevented me from getting to the log in screen and completely boot up my computer.

I have put my hard drive in another Toshiba laptop of my family's and it does the same thing so I know this is an issue with my hard drive. I'm not sure what the updates did, but it seems to have done something to the files that prevent me from booting up. I do not have my Windows CDs that came with the computer since my mother moved and I don't know what she did with my things since I am currently in college. I have tried Ctrl + Alt + Delete but all that does is restart the boot up screen and the black screen of death. I have continually pressed F8 to bring up Safe Mode options, but nothing happens.

Here is some of the data I can get by pressing F2 before the black screen disables me from doing anything further with my computer:
    Toshiba Disk Drive ML3263GSX(S2)
    HDD2H23
    320gb
    CPU Type: Pentium (R) Dual-Core CPU T4400 @2.20GHz
    Optical Disk Drive: HL-DT-ST DVDRAMGT20F(S4)
    Total Memory: 3072 MB
    System BIOS Version: 1.50

Please help! Again, I can't access a single thing when I turn on my laptop except for the BIOS setups and boot screen (F2 and F12) before the black screen with the blinking cursor shows up. I do NOT want to delete anything from my hard drive if I can help it. I for one don't understand why after installing the updates it restarted and took me to the log in screen but after hibernating it decided to not boot up and shows the black screen. Just tell me if you need more information.

When this happens, it could mean that one of your updates was installing and became corrupted, our was incompatible to begin with. When your computer its booting up, you should try to access the boot menu to see if the option to boot from last successful configuration is available. If not, can you enter the system recovery menu (F9), and try to recover the computer by resetting it to an earlier configuration? Do you have the install cd for windows?

I've got the same issue, I've tried everything still nothing. I don't have an install CD - they are rarely provided now. I do have a completely legal copy of Windows 7, it came with my laptop, just no instal CD.
Any ideas on what I can do?
