BSODs

Trying to resolve BSODs. Win 7 64 bit, 4 megs memory. BSODs seem to relate to video drivers. Newly build machine, fresh install. Here's the zipped dumpfile. When I open it I don't see text, so I hope this zipped version is readable by others.

Brian Hi and welcome

This crash was probably caused by NETIO.sys. Beyond that it was vague as to why. The usual remedies apply

Update drivers-- BIOS

run system file check to verify and repair system files
type cmd in search>right click run as admin>SFC /SCANNOW

Just a gut feeling but
download and run memtestx86 for several hours to stress ram and see if there is a heat issue

As usual if you are overclocking stop

Thanks. I'll work on that as soon as I have a block of time and a usb drive--my motherboard maker has good instructions on how to flash the bios from a thumb drive, but I've not done it before so I need to walk slowly through the directons.
I'll let you know if that appears to be a cure.

Updating the bios has provided several days of heavy streaming video with no problems. It appears to have solved my concern. Thanks!

Sorry guys. I had 3 days without a BSOD. Had one when I came to my machine today. I reviewed the suggestions here and started the scannow as zigzag3143 suggested, since I hadn't tried that. Left the machine to run--it seemed to be running, but when I came back it had BSODed while I was gone. I downloaded memtest but I'm stuck trying to unzip it and put the iso on a disk. With all the admin security issues that crop up here in spite of me having admin rights (that rarely work) I can't see the program on the CD. I go into winzip using run as administrator, but when I try to unzip the file I get told I don't have rights to do that and I don't seem to be able to create the iso to run the program.

I've done a mem test using the simple versions I find installed in win 7 and nothing shows up as a problem. I'm not overclocking and I have a cooling fan, so heat should not be such a problem. The failures were coming when running video--last nite's failure and today's failure while running the scannow procedure were not video related.

Here's the latest zip version of the dumpfile after my last BSOD. I would be happy to try memtest if I can get past the rights issues to create a disk. I don't have a floppy drive on my machine.

the group of us that do the bulk OF BSOD's have some generic advice which seems to heave helped. Im glad you are 24 hours in without. Let us know

Bugcheck = 0x7f (0x8,,,) = CPU generated a trap; double-fault caught; BSOD signaled. netio.sys listed as probable cause. i believe double-fault occurred due to possible/potential LOCK situation. netio.sys is innocent bystander.

You've got KIS and Zone Alarm installed. Both should go b/c the 3rd party firewall interferes with Windows 7 system servies via NETBIOS ports.

I can't use the ZA uninstaller--I open ZA, get to the unstaller, click on run as admin, it comes up with a screen to verify permission to uninstall. Then a screen comes up witha button to begin to unstally, but after I click on uninstall, nothing happens. ZA is still there. I've tried it with ZA running and not running. I have not yet tried the manual delete that you reference. Should I try that or is there something I'm missing. The permissions in Win 7 are getting in my way with almost everything I do, despite my having installed as the administrator. I didn't do an admin account separately from my own standard account--I have my admin and a standard for my wife.

You mention KIS. I have nothing from Kaspersky installed unless something was added in the background. I have spybot, but no other antiviral or spamware except ZA. This suggestion, and why it might show up in the dump file, puzzles me.

If I succeed with killing off ZA, do you still suggest the same antiviral as your prior post? I did update ZA to a Win 7 version that was reported to work well with Win 7 64 bit. Is this unique to my Asus motherboard bios?
