Freezing issues

I recently installed Windows 7 and it's only been frustrating me ever since I did.

My first problem is that Windows will randomly freeze up and I end up having to hard reboot my system. I've read a number of things online about how to fix it, but nothing seems to help.

Also, another problem, I'm not quite sure how to explain this one. I'm not too computer savvy so forgive me if it doesn't make sense. Windows seems to "lag" from time to time as well. I'll move the mouse and it will appear off somewhere else, just like how you lag in video games, where you would move and appear in other places because the computer can't process it. Also, during this "lag" if there is any audio playing it will "loop"? The sound will repeat until the "lag" spike goes away. This will happen about 3 to 6 times within a few seconds and then it will stop. Sorry if I made that confusing but that's the best way I know how to describe it.

If anyone can offer any suggestion on how to fix these two problems, I would greatly appreciate it.

I don't believe that I have any Antivirus program installed at the moment. I JUST did a new install of Windows 7 and I still have the problems. Unless there's an Antivirus program default installed, but I looked in the program list to uninstall it and I didn't see any listed. Where do I find it?

I did a clean install, so I will try an upgrade if the disk error check doesn't work. I did the disk error check last night and everything seems to be working fine for now. Thanks for your help! I will reply if it happens again.

Inepsy, my PC froze at least once a day after I did the Win7 upgrade. I had to do a hard reset in order to get going again. After too many weeks of getting more and more frustrated, I finally noticed that my mouse was acting very “sluggish”. Many times I had to click it several times in order to get a response. It’s a Logitech wireless mouse, so I went to their web site to see if there was something different with Win7. Logitech says that before I did the upgrade, I should have uninstalled the mouse software and then reinstalled it afterwards. Of course I hadn’t done that because I hadn’t checked with Logitech beforehand. So, I uninstalled the software (SetPoint 4.80) and restarted. I didn’t bother to reinstall SetPoint because I didn’t really need it anyway. Ever since then, no more freezing! This may have nothing to do with your problems, but I thought I’d let you know.

Unfortunately the freezing still continues, the "lag" that I mention however, hasn't occured at all since I've done what you guys have told me. It froze once while
playing a pretty old game, so I thought it was maybe just a
compatability issue. Then just a few minutes ago, my system froze
while attempting to view a video on a web page.

Is there anything else I can do?

Check the event log and study errors.

Create a system health report and study the diagnostics logs by clicking the WEP score link at Computer>Properties and then Advanced tools link.

Did you boot from the DVD and format the HD before installing?

Yes, I booted from the CD and formatted the hard drive before installation. It was a clean, fresh, and new install, NOT an upgrade.

I tried to create that system health thing you mentioned but I couldn't find it.
