    Special_pool_detected_memory_corruption bsod

    Hi there,

    System specs:
    • O/S: Win7-64
    • Mobo: Gigabyte EP45C-UD3R
    • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 [running normal at 3ghz]
    • RAM: OCZ Urban Elite 4GB DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) [underclocked at 1066]
    • I am running two RAID1s

Every now and then again I get the "SPECIAL_POOL_DETECTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION" BSOD. Memory tests have all passed. I have changed the voltage in my BIOS to match the manufacturer's specs. Here's my minidump analysis:

    SPECIAL_POOL_DETECTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION (c1)
Special pool has detected memory corruption. Typically the current thread's
stack backtrace will reveal the guilty party.
    Arguments:
Arg1: fffff980bb134fc0, address trying to free
Arg2: fffff980bb134c6b, address where one bit is corrupted
    Arg3: 00000000006d0038, (reserved)
Arg4: 0000000000000032, caller is freeing an address where nearby bytes within the same page have a single bit error

Please upload/attach the contents of your C:\Windows\Minidump folder with your next post.
This error points to the networking sub-system on your computer, so I'd recommend replacing your network drivers with a freshly downloaded copy from the network device manufacturer's website.

I'd also suggest running Driver Verifier using these settings:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista Startup Repair feature).

    Then, here's the procedure:
    - Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
    - Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
    - Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
    - Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
    - Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
    - Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and waitfor it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out.
Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn offDriver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.
If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line.

Hey dude, thanks for the response!!

I have attached the last six analyzed minidumps for you... You will notice it's been the same "special pool" error for quite some time.

I did update my LAN drivers to the latest but it was causing random disconnects so i had to rollback. I will update again.

And in the interest of learning, would you mind telling me how you know it's the network driver?

    Thank you once again.

    Probably caused by : NETIO.SYS ( NETIO!NetioDereferenceNetBufferList+86 )
When analyzing dump files, we presume that any errors in Windows components are actually due to the 3rd party driver most responsible for that component.

So, for example, NETIO.SYS is a Windows component that works in the networking sub-system.
If we presume that Windows files are OK (because of the protections in place for them), then it's gotta be the 3rd party drivers (networking) that are causing this.

Are your LAN drivers Win7 drivers?

Have you been running Driver Verifier since Oct 19? If so, that's likely to be the cause of your problem.
Please turn off Driver Verifier and see if you still have BSOD's.

Yes they are, both version I've used are from manufacturer and are for win7.

Never used Driver Verifier... scared of what it may do so want to use that as last resort!

Now I am frustrated because looking over all the dump files I have posted, each time there is a different "caused by" (chronologically listed from latest to oldest):

    Probably caused by : NETIO.SYS ( NETIO!NetioDereferenceNetBufferList+86 )
    Probably caused by : SCSIPORT.SYS ( SCSIPORT!SpFreeSrbData+17e )
    Probably caused by : MpNWMon.sys ( MpNWMon!ResumeBindOperationAsyncProc+52 )
    Probably caused by : NETIO.SYS ( NETIO!FreeConditions+92 )
    Probably caused by : Npfs.SYS ( Npfs!NpFreeClientSecurityContext+39 )
    Probably caused by : afd.sys ( afd!AfdDoWork+67 )
    Probably caused by : memory_corruption ( nt!MiCheckSpecialPoolSlop+9a )

More significant is that each error is a VERIFIER_ENABLED_VISTA_MINIDUMP
This tells me that Driver Verifier has been running since October 19 (the date of the first VERIFIER_ENABLED_VISTA_MINIDUMP )

Please turn Verifier off immediately. To do this, go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter. In the screen that shows up, click on the check box for "Delete Existing Settings", then click on "Finish". Reboot the system and see if it becomes more stable.

Driver Verifier torture tests the drivers - so if it's running your drivers are more likely to cause crashes.
Stopping the torture test is likely to stop the system crashes.

I wouldn't draw any conclusions from the rest of the information until you're running without Driver Verifier.
