    [BSOD] USB hub

Let me start with telling that i'm a very happy user of W7. Windows Vista and WinXP wouldn't work (properly) on my laptop, not even the pre-installed version.

But there is one problem remaining: when i shut down or restart W7 with the USB hub plugged in, i get a Blue Screen Of Death. Even when there is nothing plugged in, in the hub.

It's a 4-port hub from Digitus. It's working ok. It's just causing crashes when shutting down.

not sure this is just a win7 problem. I have had issues with a dynex hub that used to do this. My advice is to try switching usb ports for the hub. Also sometimes it wasnt the hub, but my usb/firewire external HD that would hang up my system on XP. Also if you have installed a pci usb card sometimes causes this hang with the attached drives to a hub.

    good luck

There's only two usb ports on my laptop (and it's not even an old one), and using one or the other gives the same result. And what device is connected doesn't matter either, it hangs even when there is no device connected.

    Is it Windows Vista certified?

It's doens't say. Should a usb hub be Vista certified?

If you want to guarantee that it's compatible then you should always try to go for something that is certified, my $20 Hub was certified and I'm having no problems with it, if you pay for something it's always best to know before hand that it's going to work.

Hi Jag and welcome to Se7en Forums

Do you still have the same problem if you disconnect the hub itself from your laptop? What about if you connect something to your laptop directly, without the hub?

I'll keep that in mind in case i have to buy a replacement.

Thank you. It's really a helpfull forum.

When i connect the devices without hub, it doesn't hang when shutting down.

    Hi Jag,

Thanks for the reply. This would appear to confirm my thoughts that it is your hub causing the problems. If the hub is otherwise working normally and only causing problems when you try to shutdown, simply unplug it from your laptop prior to you shutting it down.

    Just a thought.
Have you tried visiting your motherboard site, they might have a BIOS upgrade that might solve this issue for you?
