Windows 7, won't boot up

I installed Windows 7 upgrade 32 bit from Vista a week ago on a HP Slimline only 2 years old with adequate capability. It ran but I got the error message "can't find "Dalio file.

I couldn't get on line until I clicked the error message - "to continue" - 3 times. It would then run. To fix the problem I installed Reg Cure as recommended. Then I got a series of other messages recommending numerous other downloads. Ran a scan and got a report of many problems to be fixed. Cured the problems. All seemed to work for several days then on Monday December 28, 2009 Windows apparently upgraded or downloaded automatically at 3:59 PM.

On Tuesday morning the computer would turn on and try to boot but just stop at - "installing windows". It continued to hours but didn't do anything.

I shut it down and restarted, tried the F8 and F-11 going through all suggestions. Tried system restore to previous dates. Nothing worked. It also said it couldn't fix the problem automatically.

I tried to boot with the Windows 7 CD. Reinstalled Windows 7. No success. It displays - " Starting Windows" - but won't continue. Cant boot up. can't get on line ?

Questions - what should I do next ?

Sounds like you got victimized by a fake antivirus scheme involving "Dalio" and "Reg Cure". You probably made an error when you installed Reg Cure, which only infected you even more.

If you can ever even get into Windows safe mode, you might be able to make some headway by running Malware Bytes, Super Anti Spyware, or other legit malware applications. If not, reinstall from ground zero--set your BIOS to boot from DVD first, insert Windows 7 DVD, reboot, choose custom install, drive options/advanced, etc.

I tried to reinstall Windows 7 and it won't. Got into the C prompt DOS and ran several things.

There isn't a hardware issue. The computer will boot up and run and display " Starting Windows " with the logo, colors and the whole complement. It will try to install from the CD. Monitor works, computer runs from screen to screen.

I tried everything on the F10 and F11 keys. restore, repair, restart, safe mode and everything else, one by one.

The one message I seem to be getting is that the installation can't be completed because a file is missing or corrupted. I'm not too clear about the file missing but it seems to imply that the file is on the installation disk ' I bought the Windows 7 from Costco and had it working for a week.

There was an issue with the Google tool bar from initial installation and a warning from Microsoft that Google may not run right.

There was a temperemental problem with the WINDOWS 7 from the beginning. It wasn't acting reliably. Now from all of the forum comments it seems evident that Microsoft has a signficant problem that is still unresolved. I suppose we should expect a "patch" some day.

I can't really do anything that I know of from DOS and the C prompt unless someone has a suggestion. And I can't log on to run any software.

Is there some other boot up software that can repair, or replace missing files ?

Fortunately the computer was a HP Slimline. I bought the "Pocket Media" external hard drive and saved most of my files on it. Vista did it automatically.

Yes I tried system repair, it didn't do anything.

Today I returned my Windows 7 disk to COSTcO and obtained a new one. Same resuts - I can't install. *( COSTCO is superlative, no questions asked, they just took the old and issued a store credit which I used to buy a new version ).

Same result: The Microsoft product is eliminated from the problem !

I took the advice of one poster and created a recovery CD from an existing CD. Unfortunately I created it from a 64 bit program and applied it to a 32 bit computer and it was incompatible ! The poster failed to highlight the pitfall.

I'm coming to the conclusion that one poster surmised: Dalio may be in cahoots with Reg Cure in tampering with Windows 7 installations to sell software. If such is the case the Cyber Crimes unit of the agency should investigate. We need to ascertain if elements are issuing defective product or if opportunists are sabotaging for profit.

Assuming you want to do a clean install, you can try this. It will delete all existing partitions.

Back up your existing personal data files, bookmarks, email, mp3s, video, etc.

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

1.Once Windows 7 Setup is loaded, press Shift + F10 keys at the first setup screen (which allows selection of language, keyboard and locale). A Command Prompt window will be opened.

2.Run Diskpart, the built-in disk partitioning tool of Windows 7 with the following command:

diskpart

3.Type in the following commands one by one, followed by the Enter key to create a partition (text in brackets are comments only):

list disk (to show the ID number of the hard disk to partition, normally Disk 0)

select disk 0 (change 0 to another number if applicable)

clean

create partition primary size=50000 (creates a partition with 50 GB space; to use the entire disk as one partition, omit the “size=value” parameter switch; use a similar command to create more partitions if needed or create in Windows 7 after installation)

select partition 1

active

format fs=ntfs quick

exit

4.Type exit at command prompt to close Command Prompt window.

5.Continue Windows 7 installation as usual. Remember to just highlight and select the partition just created when you come to the partition screen.
