BSOD at windows animation during installation
Hi guys, I'm kind of new to all this... but I'm having problems installing windows 7. I've been running windows XP professional successfully for the past few years, and decided to go for the upgrade.
Problem: On start up, I'll boot straight from the windows 7 CD and it'll pass the first screen with the load bar no problem. But when it goes to the next screen with the windows animation of the 4 balls it'll crash and give me a BSOD with:
MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION
STOP: 0x0000009c
I've done some research, and apparently the stop code has something to do with XP (I'm not sure why windows 7 is even accessing XP if its just overwriting it). I ran the windows 7 upgrade advisor and everything's compatible. I've tried installing both 32 and 64bit versions. I tried flashing the BIOS. I bought a brand new hard drive and tried installing on that. I then installed XP on the new hard drive (which worked flawlessly) and then attempted to upgrade it to windows 7. But every time I still just get the same BSOD at the exact same place in the installation.
Last thing I tried was to run the windows the setup without any hard drive connected, and it got past the animation no problem and into the actual setup. I went through the first couple screens until i came to the one that says "Where would you like to install windows 7?" I then plugged in the hard drive, and clicked refresh on the menu... and guess what pops up, the same dam BSOD!
At this point, I really have no idea what could be wrong. Does anyone have some suggestions?
