    Huge files being written

I had an abnormal shutdown yesterday and the system was unresponsive for hours although considerable disk activity so I let it go, finally stopped disk activity last night about 10 PM, left system running, this morning I get a message that drive C: is low on space, searching for the culprit, I find 550 1GB files in system 32, here what they look like---

anyone have any ideas whatsoever? I'm afraid to delete and also afraid to reboot without repair disks.

You can create a repair disk now, Control Panel>Backup & Restore>Create a system repair disc
Not sure about the files though

Make a folder somewhere on your hard drive.
Move the 550 files to that folder
Reboot and try all of your programs.
    What happens?

Right click on the files and select Properties
Then select the Details tab to see if there's any information about the manufacturer of the file(s)

    according to file-extensions.org:
.dataGenerally data file.dataSAM data file.dataArena Wars game data archive.dataCoreFSIF database.dataSID Tune file.dataAdobe Soundbooth data fileTry looking through your event viewer logs to see if you can find out what was running at that time last night.
My guess would be in Windows logs - application
