BSOD with dump files Recently purchased the following laptop:
Acer Aspire 5542-5462
AMD Turion II M500 2.2ghz
4GB DDR2
500GB SATA
Windows7 Home Premium
Pulled it out of the box Friday, plugged in the power cord and started it up. Went through initial setup in ~30min. Loaded Windows 7 for first time and began setting things up. All of a sudden I get BSOD. I didn't notice what the first one was for but every time I restarted it'd run for a few minutes then BSOD, usually for a different reason every time. Called Acer tech and they had me do a full system restore from boot.......long story short it didn't help at all. I've since borrowed a know clean Windows 7 disc from a friend and completely reinstalled on fresh partition. It ran great for the first hour or so but reverted back to BSOD's every 5 min. BSOD seems to happen while doing some kind of activity like web browsing or file browsing. Hasn't happened with computer just sitting idle.
Approximate BSOD titles:
15% of time: irq not less or equal
25% of time: win32k.sys
60% of time: memory_management, or fltmgr.exe, others unnamed, or I didn't catch in time.
I attached a .zip of the memory dumps so far.
I appreciate any help on this. Hate to have to revert to Windows 7 32bit and only use 3gb of ram. | My System Specs |

Hi and welcome
Even before I read the dmp files
Download memtestx86 and run it for 5 passes. I can almost guarantee the memory will fail Almost every one of the crashes below involve memory

I loaded MemtestX86+ V:4.0 first and it ran 2.5 times and found no errors.
It listed RAM as 400mhz, DDR800, 6-6-6-18 timing
I then loaded MemtestX86 v3.4 and it's currently still on the first pass at 35% (with errors)
Interestingly it listed Ram spec differently than the above program as 365mhz, DDR731, 2.5-7-5-7 timing
This first pass has completed tests 0-7 and found no errors there. It's currently running test 8:
Test8: (Modulo 20, Random pattern)
Testing: 120K - 2048M 3838M
Pattern: ed3d6fcf-9
Test 8 is still running as I said and seems to be stuck or running very slowly as it counts individual errors on memory in slot 0.
The report is showing errors per memory slot as:
slot 0: 205,000,000 and counting
slot 1: 2
I assume from this that the memory in slot 0 is bad, how about slot 1 which had 2 errors? | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit |

Stop the test - after you get that many errors there's no point in letting it run further.
Run the test on each stick individually (and then test a good stick in all the slots). | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built (x64), Lenovo x61s Tablet, Samsung Netbook OS Win7 x64 + x86 CPU Intel i7 920, other Intel chips, and the Atom in the netbook Motherboard Asus P6T Deluxe Memory 12 gB; 4 gB Lenovo; 1 gB Samsung netbook Graphics Card ATI 4870 Sound Card Yes, I have one of these Monitor(s) Displays 32" Sharp Aquos TV Screen Resolution 800x600 - I have vision issues Keyboard Microsoft Natural Mouse Logitech Trackman PSU 1000 watt (can't recall the brand) Case Antec 300 Cooling Big honking cooler that was rated highly at Toms Hardware Hard Drives 4 - 150 gB Velociraptors in RAID 5

Well, after running the above test, I removed the ram to inspect the sticks and noticed that sometime during manufacturing someone placed a sticker on one of the memory banks that covered about 8 pins. I removed the sticker and started up windows and it stayed up for over an hour. I then shut it down and ran MemtestX86 3.4 again. It ran overnight for about 10 hours through 4.5 passes and not a single error. Think I found my problem! Thank for all your help! | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit |
