Windows 7: Seven locks up after idle/overnight

win 7 ultimate x64

@Ravanx: If the problem you have with both XP & Win 7 then probably you have some hardware problem. The 1st thing I would do is get memtest86 to test your RAM if they're all good, if memtest pass then next thing is to get everest software to see if your CPU is overheated. There's other things that would cause your system to freeze but try those 2 first.

Windows 7 Pro 32-bit
FIXED by disabling USB Root Hub Power Save

I can't find the original page on which I found this, but a MS Rep advised the following and its finally what worked for me:

Go to Device Manager
Expand USB Controllers
Go to Properties of each USB Root Hub
Go to Power Management tab and UNcheck all options
Click OK
Do this for all USB Root Hubs
And breathe a sigh of relief

Worked for me.

I woke up to a BSOD greeting me this morning. No new hardware installed; no new software installed by me but installed two non-Windows program updates on 4/24. Windows Update apparently installed PowerPoint Viewer on 4/26 (today) ???? although I already have a 2013 MS Office installation! (my...

PC locks up randomly so far when idle, error 0x0000003b
My PC started randomly locking up on me. It has not done it while I am working on it (good excuse to stay on it!!), it always locks up while I am away and the system is idle. It happens whether I have apps open or not. I don't get a BSOD, the PC is just locked up. I can reboot and everything seems...

All: I know this has been discussed before and I stumbled across this issue and fix but cannot find it this time. My Windows 7 Pro laptop is on a Win2k3 Domain with Group Policy enforced. One specific GPO will lock a workstation if it is idle for 15 minutes. I recall there being a...

Seven locks up after an hour or so idle
This happens everytime I leave my laptop downloading something, Seven just locks up and freezes (I can't do anything, be it move the mouse or ctrl+alt+del), when I leave it and take a look after a while it's already frozen, so I've never caught the locking up. Any ideas?
