I've posted in another thread earlier today concerning a BSOD I've been getting with a computer I recently purchased. In reality, I bought 2 laptop of the same model. I'm not sure whether I should be posting here but seeing this is about a different issue I thought maybe it was more appropriate to start a new topic..

Anyhow, I was wondering if someone could help me with it. My problem is that the computer will sometime stop responding entirely while making a screeching, continuous sound that will not stop until I turn off the laptop manually. Two days ago, I got a BSOD with the following message:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 4105
Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 124
BCP1: 0000000000000000
BCP2: FFFFFA8004495608
BCP3: 0000000000000000
BCP4: 0000000000000000
OS Version: 6_1_7600
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 768_1
Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\011610-33727-01.dmp

Also, using Event Viewer, I can see that there were 6 Kernel-Power (Event ID: 41, Task Category: 63) events.

From what I've read in the forums, this is the same as a STOP 0x124 error right? If that's the case, I will probably be returning the machine this week. But I would just like to know if someone has an idea on what sort of things cause this kind of problem (freeze with screeching sound) and if there are any clues in my minidump file.

Thanks again!

That stop code points to a hardware error, though not a clue what.

You should try manually updating video card drivers, motherboard drivers, etc.

Thanks for the fast reply LordBob,

It seems like my drivers were up to date, although by using the ATI/Catalyst installer, something called North Bridge Filter did get installed. I'll leave this computer running during the night to see if it hangs or BSOD.

I'll probably never know what causes the 0x124, but do you have an idea on what could cause a computer to freeze and make a screeching sound?

Thanks for the help guys!
