    BSODs in Windows 7 (and Vista) after fresh installs


    Hi there. I have a Dell Vostro 1500, Intel integrated GPU, 1.4GHz Dual Core. I bought it with XP Pro, though it shipped with Vista as well. So here's the timeline.

    - XP worked flawlessly
    - Installed Ubuntu on separate partition; works flawlessly
    - Ran Windows 7 compatibility tool, checked out fine; installed Windows 7 Beta (several months ago); got random BAD_POOL_CALLER and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSODs.
    - Ran Memtest for days, no errors
    - Reformatted Windows 7 Beta using a USB stick instead; random BSODs.
    - Reformatted with Vista Basic; random BSODs.
    - Replaced memory with a new pair of 1GB sticks; random BSODs.
    - Obtained and installed a new copy of Windows 7 Home Premium; random BSODs.
    - Downgraded to previous BIOS version; same thing.

    If someone could help me out, I'd be jazzed. This computer runs memtest day and night with no problems, so I have a hard time thinking it's a memory problem, though I could be mistaken. The BSODs occur at really random intervals... it could happen during boot, or while viewing a pdf. I will attach my minidump files, and also the output of BlueScreenView.

    Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks a million, if so...

    These are as you said bad pool caller. that can be either a device driver or memory. Since you have old drivers it could be either

    I would

    update or remove the old drivers

    run a system file check
    type cmd in search>right click and run as admin

    download memtestx86 and run it for 5 passes

    Thank you very much for your reply. I will research all the old drivers you mentioned and install the Vista compatible drivers from the Dell website. However, I have a question about how to properly install Windows 7. I notice that when I install Windows 7, it automatically installs their version of drivers. Do I basically let Windows 7 install it's own hardware drivers, and then update any of their drivers with the newer Dell versions, or is there a way to prevent Windows 7 from installing drivers to begin with?
