Non responsive Windows 7 after Sleep

Strange crash this and not every time. If the machine is put into Sleep or goes after non use, when restarted with mouse movement, the programs already running will work, but cannot get anything else to work. So no connection to Internet. Going to either Restart or Shutdown, the machine reports Explorer is working. Forcing Restart or Shutdown results in the machine haging. Have to switch off and restart, running Windows as normal.
    Any suggestions?

Unlike hibernation mode which saves to a file and shuts down completely, sleep mode puts everything into the RAM and cuts power to everything but the motherboard and input devices like your mouse and keyboard. If you have ram that's heading out the door never to come back again, this could be the cause of your problem.

Download Memtext86+, burn it, and give it a run through at least five times. Come back with a yay or nay.

In addition to the advice on the memory, above, after you know that a stick is good, test it in all slots.
