Check for problems

Before you read the following know this....
I am in no way, shape, or form, trying to prevent anyone from learning a thing or 2.

But,,,,,,,,, there are several things you should know starting off on this venture......


A. List your full PC specs under the User CP at the top of this forum.

B. You are going to need to learn how to Run full Hardware Diags......
.........Memory Tests
.........Hard Drive Tests
Are going to be the biggest 2 you need to run first.

C. In absolute all honesty, you will be better off backing up your data to an external Hard Drive and start from scratch and not doing an Upgrade install of Windows 7.

D. There is no magic button


The first thing you will need to do is,.......

Follow this link to the letter...... Go Here and do what it says in Step 1 only, don't try to move on to 2. or others.

Memory Diags should not run for less than 4 hours.
If you get an error before then,, it means you probably have bad RAM.
Longer than 4 hours without an error and you can be pretty sure the RAM is fine
And then we can move on to running Hard Drive Diags.

That is the first thing you need to do.

As an aside,,, you are going to see errors in Event Viewer,, it is inevitable.
There is not a single PC on the Planet that doesn't get daily Error's and Warnings in the Event Viewer.
Ok,, there might be some that MAy go a day or so, but there will eventually be errors.

They are not all bad,,, most are meaningless and have no impact on the system.

You can spend hours, days and weeks delving into the Event Viewer and never find the reason to a particular problem. Doesn't mean it's useless, you just have to know what you are looking for.

Just be prepared that there is no magic button.
