you can clean install windows 7 with the hp upgrade disks as i have done this.

You will be missing a couple of drivers - go to the hp website put in your model number and download the every driver on the list. You will be missing 3 on is the ene cir reciever - then hard drive protection and an intel one. Sorry can't remember but if you up date them all it should be fine.

oh i also done a clean install of vista them upgraded to 7 it worked ok, still need to worry about some drivers. My best installation to date is erasing my hard drive using the hard drive manufacture disk then a clean install. No problems

    good luck..

on last thing the new key should be on the back of the packet that hp sent you. this is the only key you need to reload 7 clean.

now when i look in the logs i see a lot of critical and warning about boot performance monitoring and shutdown monitoring, it also told me to change my theme to windows 7 basic for best performance and then my device manager stops responding! i am getting very frustrated with windows, i only installed programs and drivers recommended, i have no extra programs on here i am still having problems, i followed the install step by step, do i have to learn another OS like linux to stop these rediculous problems im my event viewer,

: The embedded controller (EC) did not respond within the specified timeout period. This may indicate that there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware or that the BIOS is accessing the EC incorrectly. You should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS. In some situations, this error may cause the computer to function incorrectly.

THE BIOS FROM HP WEBSITE WAS OLDER THAN THE ONE I HAD

The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service hung on starting.

The Windows Event Log service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

The Windows Defender service hung on starting.

Did you replace drivers which the Win7 installer provided? As I mentioned earlier, the Win7 installer is mostly driver-complete; you only need to install drivers which are missing in Device Manager after receiving drivers from Windows Update.

It seems in re-reading your thread that the problems started when you added a bunch of drivers from the HP website. The only drivers I pick from HP webpages for models I work on are for touchscreen or webcam.

If you have a restore point to roll back to right after you installed, i would use it. Otherwise I would do a clean reinstall and this time use the drivers which Win7 and Windows Update provides.

As also suggested, I'd install any missing drivers or programs one per day with a restore point so you have time to test their performance. Then you know exactly what caused the problem.
