    Application hanging

Was great for several months, now have an application hanging problem. Works ok in safe mode, but in normal, all applications hang and some like skype drop out. Updated the video card driver, ran 3rd party virus scans in safe mode, ran registry programs, problem still exists. All programs hang as in Not Responding. Process explorer does not show any intrusive problems, event log says nothing, am perplexed.

    Welcome!

Have you tried a virus scan? Download Malwarebytes and do a scan.

You can also try a System Restore to a point before the troubles.

Sure, did all sorts of virus scans including malwarebytes, Norton 360 and the outdated Spybot. All in safemode, no problems in safe mode, including w/ networking. Appears to be a W7 problem.

Nothing to note in eventvwr or process explorer. Looks like need a W7 update to fix this.

Did not have a restore point so that option not available, too bad because 10 days ago no problems

Well, you can try a Repair Install.

Do note that Malwarebytes does best when run in normal mode, not safe mode.

I doubt that it the issue, though.

Repair Install implies I need a disc? I downloaded W7 so do not have one, I am an American living in Egypt

You can always create a Repair Disc yourself: System Repair Disc - Create

Tried to run Malwarebytes in normal mode, far too painful as it hung frequently and after 8 hours gave up. Got sick of it all and reinstalled W7 from new, another 8 hour session. Seems to be faster boot, shutdown and load programs, but still has the painful random program hang. Every program. Pulled all the USB devices and problem persists. Am seriously thinking of going back to Vista or better yet get a Mac

Go ahead, get a Mac. For the $2000 you will spend, hopefully you will not get problems such as this.

Hopefully you could save yourself a buck and get a hold of some installation media. You can order a DVD from Microsoft, for the cost of the shipping.

You can also head to Torrent; just make sure that you verify the hash first.

    JK,

Is that the official attitude for problems with this software? Sorry to hit a nerve with the Mac threat. What is your professional opinion on what I should do next? I have checked with eventvwr, nothing, process explorer reveals nothing intrusive during these annoying program hangs, reinstalled W7 to no avail. After reinstall, it seems better performance for boot, load programs and shutdown. But it would seem now the program hangs are less frequent however more severe in terms of duration, usually requiring reboot.

I must confess I do not know the answer. Let me get more help for you.

I apologize for being snippy in the last post... it's been a long day, and I'm tired. Please don't take it personally.
