    Sometimes won't resume from Sleep

    Hello all,

I'm dumbfounded on this one. Here's what I know...

I have Win7 Home Premium, and am using it on a Media Center PC. When I put the PC to sleep, sometimes it will wake up properly, sometimes it won't. When it does not wake up from sleep...I have to manually press the power button on the computer for it to turn on (as if the computer "shut down" rather then sleep), and during boot I receive the "windows did not shut down properly" screen with the 30 second count down to select if I want to start up normally, or try safe modes. This is KILLING my recordings and driving me insane.

It seems to be that it happens mostly when I leave the PC sit overnight and I do NOT try to check on it in the morning. In other words, use the PC at night, put it into sleep mode before I go to bed between 10pm and 11pm central, and leave it alone until it is supposed to wake up on it's own to record usually around 7pm or 8pm central. So it's in sleep for around 20-22 hours.

If I put it to sleep at night around 11pm central, and in the morning before I go to work I wake it up myself around 8am central, it wakes up. I then put it to sleep & go to work around 9am central, and come home and it's recording what it should between 7pm or 8pm central.

So there definitely seems to be a timing issue, but what? It sits too long and crashes while in sleep mode??? Why? If I leave the computer running all day, it works fine, and does not crash.

Interestingly enough, I also run another computer with Win7 Home Premium, and it does NOT crash at all when it's in sleep mode. That computer uses completely different hardware other then the Keyboard & Mouse setup.

Does anyone have any ideas? And before you ask, I have the newest drivers on all items (at least that I know of) and I even tried to reinstall Win7 to get rid of this situation. That didn't work...

    System specs below...

    E6600 Core2 Duo
    GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P
    CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX PSU
    Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250
    SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100273L Radeon HD 4850
    Antec Fusion Remote Max
    CORSAIR TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF
    LITE-ON iHES208-08 Blu-Ray Drive
    Logitech Wave Pro Keyboard/Mouse Combo
Western Digital Black WD1001FALS 1TB Main Drive
Western Digital Blue WD500AAKS 500gig Backup Drive
HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000 1TB Storage Drive

The computer is hooked up to my network through the onboard Network Connector

My display is a Samsung DLP TV, so there is no sleeping of a monitor.

Are both machines hooked up to a surge protector? Could it be power fluctuations from the power co?

Its possible that windows DID wake from sleep but its simply that the screen didn't wake up with windows. I would suggest you try this. Next time the os wakes up from sleep and blank screen, just type in your password and press enter (without the screen). Then press your shortcut key for sleep mode again. After it goes back into sleep mode, Wake it up again!! This time, the screen might also wake...
This seems to occur in quite a few cases Ive seen
The best way to diagnose this is when you wake your computer from sleep, type in your password, press enter and LISTEN FOR THE STARTUP SOUND for loging in. If you hear it, do the above.
    Cheers~!

Jonathan_King - Both computers are hooked up to a surge supressor...but keep in mind I do NOT have this issue on the "other" computer.

I have tried hooking them up directly to the wall as well. Even when I have the no wake up from sleep issue...all other components work fine...so the surge supressor is not being tripped.

sparkie - It's not a blank screen issue, please re-read (also I should have described it better)...it will not wake up from sleep at all. I have to manually press the power button and during boot I receive the "windows did not shut down properly" screen with the 30 second count down to select if I want to start up normally, or try safe modes

I've had a similar issue on 64-bit 7 and am homing in on a clue being a Logitech USB webcam (and a current one). If it's plugged in when it goes to sleep, that's when I have trouble.

Update: well, it did it again, this time without the cam plugged in. :-/
