    BSOD on Paint Save

    Hi,
I had win7 running perfect for months. I got a very bad virus, so I had to reformat the entire PC. I reinstalled WinXP, then used my Vista Upgrade, then used my Win7 Upgrade. This is the same way I did it orginally. I then was getting BSOD from my external hdd, when transfering large files. I since then installed some updated NVIDIA PCI network drivers, which seemed to stop that.
Now I realised that I still get a BSOD when I am using Paint and I click on Save. It has also happened when just double clicking on a jpg file to view it.
The BSOD doesnt say any specific codes or information. I have attached my msconfig, and dump files from last 4 crashes.

Any help would be appreciated as I use this computer as my main work station and need to be editing files using paint, and viewing them etc.
    Kind Regards,
    Marco

    Hi,

This is really annoying. I cant do any work. I have updated the latest NVIDIA motherboard and graphics card drivers direct from the NIVDIA website. I thought it was running alright for the past couple of days. Then while I was opening a dwg file it froze again. Then I turn the pc back on, print screenshot of the dwg and trying saving in paint, and it freezes again.
I really cant put up with this any more. Can someone please help me identify which drivers need to be updated? Otherwise I might throw this computer in the rubbish.

I think it is the NVIDIA drivers for the motherboard which are causing me grief. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Kind Regards,
    Marco.

Dumps list two error codes, have a look here for more info/causes
    0x01 BSOD Index
    0x24 BSOD Index

I would start with running a full HDD diagnostic HD Diagnostic
and running memtest Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Also you have a few old drivers on your system these could do with updating
    FileDisk.SYS 18/01/2006
    SCDEmu.SYS 18/03/2006
    ElRawDsk.sys 26/07/2008

    Thanks for the advice.
I ran the memtest, found no errors. I then ran the HDD test, found some errors, so I repaired them.
I am not sure how to update those drivers you mention. I tried googling them but couldnt find anything relevant.
I dont know if the hdd was the problem, I havent had the blue screen yet, but I will test Paint, dwg files and pdf's which seem to trigger it.
I have also noticed that I randomly get the screen flickering, then back to normal, with an error message saying that the Display Driver stopped working, but then was restored. Not sure if this is anything to do with the BSOD.

Would updating the BIOS be worth doing? And how would I do that.

The last 2 drivers are at this link: Driver Reference (the page is only a draft, so it will change shortly).

google for filedisk.sys - it belongs to a bunch of different programs

    Fixed

    Thanks.

I have not had the BSOD for a week now. My system seems to be running alright for now. I will look to upgrade to boost some performance.

In conclusion, it seems that updating the motherboard and graphics card drivers fixed the first issues of the ext hdd bsod. Now running a HDD Test, (found errors, then repaired them) seems to have fixed the other BSOD.
I hope this helps any one else who encounters a similar problem.

Thanks to everyone who has helped.

    Hi,

My pc has been running fine for the past month. With no BSOD. Last week I then had it again a few times, then for a week it has been fine, but just now I have had it happen again.
I dont know what the problem is. We had the power go off, and on and off last night about 3 times. Then it was off for a hour and back on.
Today I opened a jpg file, printed, then opened another jpg and it crashed with the BSOD.
Can someone please tell me what the dump files say the problem could be?
    Thanks.
