BSOD Memory Management and PFINPA

I've had these crashes for a while now, and I've had enough of it to actually post a thread of my own. Hope any of you can help me!

I've had this comp since two years ago, although I bought a new motherboard, processor and memory last fall because the old motherboard was fried. I keep getting BSODs at random intervals, sometimes even right after a restart. Prior to reinstalling W7 I also had freezes and various error messages, but those seem to be gone now. I don't think it's the AVG I have, since the problems started prior to it being installed. I've already checked my memory, and the tests came clean. Have read that it might be the PSU, but haven't got a spare one to check it atm.

Any and all help is very much appreciated!

On a first look, this really looks like memory problem. As I have been told, sometimes memtest will not detect error but the ram can still be faulty. If possible, try other rams in the mobo. It might be compatibility problem.

I had similar memory management BSOD too, see my other thread with many posts and see if you can find some tips and advices. Lot of skilled people on this forum posted on my thread to help me out. They have been so great, you cannot imagine.

@ManOwar2: Yeah, I know that the memtest sometimes does not arrest a faulty memory, but I don't have spare parts as mentioned. I have an icky feeling about the RAM myself. I distinctly recall that I couldn't find the exact model in the motherboard manual. It's just frustrating since I specifially asked the retailer to pick compatible memory for me when I bought the motherboard. :/

Well, since I have installed new ram, my system is more stable. No BSOD but most importants, no program failures. (I had 5 to 10 every day even if no BSOD)

The last three weeks have been a pain for me, trying to figure what was going wrong on my system.

I think I've already made a big step by changing the ram.

In the past, most of BSOD I had with windows 95 and windows 98 were always related to memory problem, whatever the message was. Never had 1 single BSOD in windows XP though, in 5 years of intense usage. I think Windows vista and seven might be more picky about ram errors. Pretty sure the MOBO factor is also something to take in consideration.

My old P5W DH deluxe i975 took everything I threw at it. (upgraded CPU, graphic cards couple times) and never had a single problem. This mobo was well know for mega-compatiblity.

My new ones seems to be picky about rams. Maybe my ram was not necessarly faulty, but my mobo didnt liked them !



Also, must I mention that I did 4 memtest.

First test with memtest86 3.4 (3.5 would not load for some reasons)

Went throught 6 pass with no error...then on the 7th pass, test 7 it poped up 269 errors. I swtiched the RAM to differents slots, then did 2 x times memtest x86+ 4.0 and on test 5 and 6 it popped up errors in two differents runs. (small ammount of errors thought)

My 4th memtest popped up no errors after 7 completed pass.

And now looks like changing my ram did something...I'm crossing my fingers and hopefully I wont have others BSOD.


I've learned lot about debugging in the last three weeks, the hard way. Next time I'll know where to look if I have problem in the future.

It's getting worse. Today I had to random freezes, and I wasn't doing anything. First one was right after exiting sleep mode, the other some time after the reboot. I left it and came back to see it had crashed after an hour, since the clock was frozen as well.

Anyone else want to leave a comment? I'm going to test the memory again after next BSOD.

please download burn to CD and run from boot memtest86+ for at least 3 passes also try on single sticks and in different slots for a full check :)

aslo could you please zip and upload your most recent minidump files for analysis

I ran the memtest on both sticks, and one of them instantly failed. After about five passes on both individually, one randomly failed one in three, while the other passed all. I'm going to the retailer tomorrow to have both changed, since they're a pair. Are there any other things I should check, or should I wait and see if the new memory solves the problem?

Its better to resolve the memory problem first
