Impressive recovery from blue screen

Just a quick note about an impressiverecovery from my first blue screen -- after running W7 for six weeks. This may have related to six external hard drives I have hooked up. These are various types of Western Digital my book hard drives five of which were hooked up through a Belkin hub and the six of which was plugged into my Windows 7 quad four machine. I was doing a file transfer using a third-party application called Handy backup which had been running for an hour.

There was a sudden reboot. Windows said it had recovered from a blue screen. The operating system came back but only the internal hard drive was visible. Disc administration showed the other ones but not their names. They were on line. According to Disk Manager. Clicking on them said that the information that the operating system had was old and that rescanning or rebooting was dated. Rescan he did not work.

Rebooting resulted in a wizard coming up which offered to do a system restore. By allowing this to run the entire system appears to have come back perfectly. The hard drives are again visible and operating.

I am an XP user who skipped Vista.

This recovery was very impressive. Just a quick post about my experience.

I've had two reboots after which all by external hard drives were invisible. They appeared in device manager but not in Windows Explorer and interesting enough.not in Disk Manager initially. After refreshing Disk Manager they showed up with a proper sizes but no names or drive letters. They were listed as online. I put them off line and then online at the information all came back.
The first time this happened FDISK said that "this disc is off-line because of the signature collision with another hard drive"
There are published recommendations regarding this error anywhere from simply taking the disc off and online to doing more

I'm not exactly sure what caused this problem except that several of them had been connected to my network through a proprietary device -- Pogo plugged -- there is only one Windows 7 computer on my network. Perhaps this is how Windows 7 is signed the same number? I was hoping the problem was gone after the first time. The discs are all accessible after I do the off and on line trick but perhaps the error returns if Windows 7 eventually accesses the two similarly named devices at the same time?

It may also relate to a problem I just posted over in the networking section relating to an apparent problem with Windows 7 not being able to connect to a Windows XP MCE machine using remote desktop when external hard drives are connected into that Windows XP MCE machine. Both machines are running Acronis backup software.

Meanwhile I will look into the two references you have given me.

Thank you again for this tip. I just kept an eye on the situation and there were no more crashes. I did not have to remove the Acronis driver. Much appreciated
