    Hi Steven

You can do a fresh install of windows without losing all of your documents and files. The way to do this is just install Windows without formatting your hard drive on the Driver Option in Advanced mode instead just select your partition and install Windows. Windows will then pop up with a message saying something along the lines of (Windows will save your old files in to a folder called Windows.old). Once you have installed your OS the folder will be located in: Computer > C:// > Windows.old.

    Hope this has helped XD

    I've got the same problem..
And my computer is brand new (<month) and the specs are top notch..and still!

but I've been reading some websites..

..perhaps it has something to do with TDR..?

..but if..TDR is merely a recovery module..
..wouldn't that mean our graphic cards are defective?

Another internet user stated that this is due to a incompatibility issue from Microsoft since the days of Vista.

Both Nvidia and ATi have problems like these..

I couldn't possibly imagine..two badass companies like these two could both cough up defective graphics drivers, so don't go ahead and tell me, "oh, it could be a bad driver, try redownloading and installing them again."

I've tried to enable TDR settings in the registry and disable them, and still the problem still occurs just the same.

This problem would occur even right at startup, freezing the entire display and I can't do a thing about it except restart.

There's no way in hell that something as simple as a reformatted Windows 7 could freeze on a top-notch computer like this, not even close (And yes, it did happen.)

This is definitely not a matter of simply insufficient specs, or overheating, or poor PSU, or cooling. It isn't even entirely about drivers (though a new one could potentially work around it, say, having the graphics driver wait until the CPU has done all of its extensive processing before going ahead and execute a complex graphics equation)

Before I've upgraded my computer, my previous system configuration, albeit with a much sub-standard card (GeForce GT 8800), though sluggish, worked immaculately well no matter what I browsed and did, so I know my stuff pretty well, I'd have to say.

UPDATE & Apology: Well, I was definitely carried away there, I apologise to everyone. It's my frustration over this matter. Anyways, I believe a large part of this problem could simply be..insufficient power.

    Well, you say, "what the.."?
Well, I realized that the majority of the occurrences usually come from Windows loading up substantially. I know that when something loads up from standstill, a considerably larger current is needed to be drawn, usually called the inrush current.
Especially when you consider today's technology, we have not only these monstruous machines to load up, we have tons and tons of software to boot up. Multi cored, heavy SLi configurations, printers, scanners, wireless devices left and right, bluetooth phones and headsets to link up..all of these require power.

Now look at your power bar, notice how you're always struggling find a way to get more free sockets for your other devices like your shaver or your shredder or your air conditioner or your cellphone charger.

Well sometimes, it just ain't enough to go around.
And when that happens, certain devices can hiccup, so to speak.
An interruption of electricity..just a microsecond could probably do it.

This is all just speculation..but yeah, maybe it's time to free some of those sockets..
