System freezes after leaving on a long time

After I come back from leaving the computer on for awhile, like maybe an hour or two, I have no taskbar, no icons on the desktop, and I can't do anything....as in, I can't get into the computer. I have to reboot. Any idea why this happens? I would appreciate any help on this. It's puzzling!

Make sure your "Shut down" button is not set to "Hibernate", roll mouse over it and it will tell you the setting.

Set it to Shut down, it should say "closes all open programs, shuts down Windows, turns off computer"

I checked, and it says "closes all programs" etc etc. So I may have to update my onboard video drivers.
Hey..thanks for the quick response. Much appreciated.
