Long pause when logging in (black screen)

I am running Windows 7 Professional x64. When I log in to Windows, I get a long black screen for 20 seconds before it will go to my desktop. I have the updated graphics card so I don't know what this could be. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Brandon

    Welcome!

There is a known issue when you use one of the solid-color images as a background. Is this applicable to you?

You could try running a hard disk check

I don't have a solid background. I have one of the images from the Windows wallpaper choices. I will try to change it to something else. Thanks for your quick reply. As for the hard disk, I will try that, but I formatted my hard disk when I installed Windows 7. Any other ideas would be great!

    Thanks, Brandon

That problem almost suggests a application issue to me. Try a Selective Startup.

Hi, thank you for your help. I tried that, but the problem still persists. I am utterly confused at what this could be. When I first installed windows 7, it was fine for the first three or four times I logged in, but then it started this. I reinstalled it trying to fix the problem that way, but it came back in the same manner. I just don't have any more ideas.

    Thanks, Brandon

It sounds like a program you are installing. What programs have you installed? What anti-virus are you using? If you disable it, does the problem go away?

The only thing I have installed is Google Chrome. I don't have any antivirus software on my machine. Other than google chrome there is nothing else I installed on my computer before it started this. Chrome works fine on my other machines so I don't think that is an issue, but I may be wrong.

    Thank you for your time

Could you please fill in your system specs in your profile?

20 seconds does not seem unreasonable. Maybe a little long, but slow hardware could easily cause this.

I will fill it in as soon as I can. I have "newer" hardware. It ran Vista just fine. I did not have any problems like this. My model is a HP tx2110us if you could take a look at the specs before I am able to put them on here.

    Thanks
